OMFG!!! What is wrong with this???Kabs 12-10-2001, 05:25 PM    What the hell??? Ok im a newbie to civics and what they cando but help me out with this..... I downloaded a couple of movies from kazza (illegal races :) ) and i came to a couple where a civic smoked i mean smokes a viper, corvette, gsx, 3000gt, bmw 5 series, even a freakin supra!!! Ok now tell he hw in the freakin world is that possible!!! And one more thing... I have been hearing of civic turbos??? howis that possible??? also cn anone give me stats o some fast civics?? the miodes they supped up??? what they did... pics... the cost tosupe it up.....AND MOST OF ALL HOW DID THE CIVIC BEAT ALL OF THOSE CARS??? ESPECIALLY THE VIPER, CORVETTE, AND THE SUPRA TT?!?!?!?!?    Rice-Rocketeer 12-10-2001, 05:51 PM Ok to beat a viper with an economy car like a civic you need a few things: 1. Light base model hatchback. Weighing in at just over 2000 lbs 2. Next you get a large engine from its big brother, the Integra GSR and transplant it into the ultralight chasis. You now have a car that runs 14's beating TT's. 3. Then you prepare the engine for a life of forced induction by replacing several key components of fuel, spark and internal reciprocating assemblies. 4. Finally slap on a rather large turbocharger on the whole ensemble and you now have a 10 second honda that can beat almost anything on the road granted you can get traction. But don't expect to have a 10 sec daily driver from a honda. xivera 12-10-2001, 05:55 PM Just what I was about to say! RR, you beat me to it! Rice-Rocketeer 12-10-2001, 05:55 PM Realistcally you could get the swap and turbocharge it and have a 13 to 12 second daily driver, Anything faster and the compromises start to make it financially unrealistic. As for specs, the car that beat the viper was pushing about 400 HP and similar torque and the owner reportedly spent $20,000 for the whole package. I used to have detailed specs but my harddrive died. Rice-Rocketeer 12-10-2001, 05:56 PM Originally posted by xivera Just what I was about to say! RR, you beat me to it! You're Welcome :) ExExGuy 12-10-2001, 06:00 PM You can't believe everything you see on TV. Or the internet. In seriousness, I don't think a civic CAN beat those cars under any circumstances. A viper for one does 0-60mph in first gear, and it does it INSANELY fast. A stock civic gets to 60mph in third gear. The time a GOOD driver spends shifting alone from first to second and second to third is enough for the viper to be at 60mph... In any race, the viper is going to kill the civic. There are a few civics that run the 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds, but they aren't really civics any more. They are the body of a civic, with the interior stripped down to a driver's seat and steering wheel, with every possible piece of metal lightened and every street ILLEGAL modification done to make it zoom. The stock Dodge Viper runs 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, and runs a 12.8 second 1/4 mile. The stock Corvette runs 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The stock supra runs 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The stock NSX runs 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The stock Ferrari F50 runs 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The stock Lamborghini Diablo runs 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The stock civic runs the 1/4 mile in 17-18 seconds. Sorry, I don't have 1/4 mile times on all those cars.... But don't be deceived by movies and things that have been recorded. It's easy to play tricks on people. A civic isn't a fast car, no matter what CAI/exhaust/header you have. Even a turboed H22A on a fully stripped body would struggle to keep up with these cars. And yes, I drive a civic too. Swonder67 12-10-2001, 06:03 PM Any civic you see beating a viper isn't a door slammer. Lexan windows, no interior, and some CRAZY ass forced induction. Darkwing 12-10-2001, 06:48 PM not to be a prick, but the EX Si civics run 15's-16's 1/4 mile, depending on what year you got. Mine runs 16.8 but its a heavy 3700 lbs. But these guys are right, only way to beat a Viper with a civic is to turn the Civic into a Frankenstien. xivera 12-10-2001, 07:02 PM Oh yeah, I forgot to mention to put in a poor driver in the [insert exotic car here]. :hehe: Kabs 12-10-2001, 08:07 PM SO WHAT U GUYS ARE TELLIN ME IS THAT ONLY A F*CKED UP SUPED UP CIVIC CAN BEAT THOSE CARS.... SO IF I WANTED TO DRAG RACE NICE EXOTIC CARS LIKE THE SUPRA, RX-7, CORVETTE... I SHOULD NOT EVEN BOTHER GETTIN A CIVIC.... SO IM BASICALLY DOWN TO GSX OR 3KGT :) THANKS GUYS :) IF IM WRONG PLEASE TELL ME :) Swonder67 12-10-2001, 08:21 PM Screw the GSX. The 3000GT is nice, but expensive. well, any way you do it, it'll be pricey. Will this be just a drag car, or will it be a daily driver? Rice-Rocketeer 12-10-2001, 08:27 PM Hint: http://www.automotiveforums.com/kris/kris/+junk/capslock.gif And come on bro, why don't you just check out the MSRP of these cars and then tell me what you think? Supra $15K RX-7 $10k-$15K Corvette $40K Civic $6K You get what you pay for. xivera 12-10-2001, 08:30 PM Originally posted by Rice-Rocketeer And come on bro, why don't you just check out the MSRP of these cars and then tell me what you think? Also, consider how much it cost for you to mod either car(s) Ktulu 12-10-2001, 08:38 PM Darkwing, do you mean 2700 lbs. 5th gen exs are supposed to weigh a little under 2400 lbs. madtownhonda 12-10-2001, 09:34 PM you think a Civic can't run 10 second quarter miles? I guarantee you there are a whole lot of 10 second Civics out there that are street legal....you put 300hp in a 2000lb hatch and it will run a 10 second quarter mile with the right driver Swonder67 12-10-2001, 09:37 PM There's no doubt some civics can run sub 10's. Just that most of them are not door slammers. madtownhonda 12-10-2001, 09:43 PM I know of a 10 second Civic, full interior including stereo...no lexan windows...it's possible...most people don't know how to tune a car...the very few that do are rewarded Kabs 12-10-2001, 09:44 PM sorry for the caps but keyboard malfunctioned :( 1st if a supra is 15k hook me up with one :) id like to see that :) oh and thanks guys for the info :) oh the car would be driving at day racing at night... and i think it would be a wise choice to get the 3kgt vr-4 :) thanks again... ifa anyone wants to add stuff be you are welcome!!! spankaveli 12-10-2001, 09:45 PM There's no doubt some civics can run sub 10's. Just that most of them are not door slammers.key word here is MOST. all your really need is h22, crx hf, some boost and some traction. Kabs 12-10-2001, 09:48 PM sorry for caps...keyboard was stuck :( anyways to be quick...where can i find a supra for 15k :) tt?? oh well the car would be for daily driving and night racin... so i think a vr-4 would be a good choice.. but if anyone wants to agg more things you are more than welcome... andd thankyou people for tyhe great info...even tho i was insulted by some :D -Kabs Kabs 12-10-2001, 09:50 PM oopss:D :D :D i wrote the same thing twice :frog: i feel stupid now so ill run to my corner and cry :smoker: ok thanks every one Darkwing 12-10-2001, 09:52 PM Originally posted by Ktulu Darkwing, do you mean 2700 lbs. 5th gen exs are supposed to weigh a little under 2400 lbs. well, I thought so, but I seen it printed on my doorjamb as 3700lbs and on another website I saw. My car sure as heck don't feel like no 3700lbs. If you want a fast car (not drag racer) for cheap? then get a 1994 Eagle Talon tsi. For what reasons? 1) It's cheap 2) it's insanely fast for a 4 banger 3) the tsi is all wheel drive, so added traction 4) it's stock turbo charged, and with slight modding can handle 30 lbs of boost if you want. Kabs 12-10-2001, 10:03 PM THANKYOU FOR THE HELP!! But i must say i will stick to the vr-4 :) ill pass on the talon because i just dont like them period :) niot my type.... I have a pretty good deal on a 94 vr-4 and ill take it.... thanks agian!!! Swonder67 12-10-2001, 10:05 PM The VR4 is a sweet ride. I never drove one in real life, but I owned one in Gran Turismo 3 and it was the shiz. :) spankaveli 12-10-2001, 10:49 PM Originally posted by Darkwing well, I thought so, but I seen it printed on my doorjamb as 3700lbs and on another website I saw. Torque is a beautiful thing! servo411 12-10-2001, 10:59 PM if you can find a 3rd gen rx-7 for a good price, it's probaly gonna ned a ass load of maintenance on it. the turbo ones are prone to overheating and the vacuum hose for the turbos tend to get dry rotted and you have problems with boost. don't get me wrong i would love to have one, just one that has been babied and taken well care of is gonna be at least 15k to 20k. i wouldn't want a 3000gt vr4 yeah twin turbos and awd are great, but that car needs a serious diet. servo411 12-10-2001, 11:03 PM i had a second gen rx-7, non turbo and that car was pretty quick, 1.3liter and it put out the power of a six cyl. ahhh..the beauty of the rotary engine Swonder67 12-10-2001, 11:33 PM Originally posted by servo411 if you can find a 3rd gen rx-7 for a good price, it's probaly gonna ned a ass load of maintenance on it. the turbo ones are prone to overheating and the vacuum hose for the turbos tend to get dry rotted and you have problems with boost. don't get me wrong i would love to have one, just one that has been babied and taken well care of is gonna be at least 15k to 20k. i wouldn't want a 3000gt vr4 yeah twin turbos and awd are great, but that car needs a serious diet. And in the cold the alot of the engine components get gummied up and clogged pvang31019 12-11-2001, 04:14 AM www.houston-imports.com The civic that beat the viper is in there...his name is Jaon(st00pid) making 480whp and run's 10's in the 1320(full interior)...all while still having time to go get some milk CivicRacerX 12-11-2001, 04:44 AM Originally posted by servo411 I wouldn't want a 3000gt vr4 yeah twin turbos and awd are great, but that car needs a serious diet. I couldn't agree more. The VR4 is a pig, it would definitely be better billed as a super touring car instead of trying to call it a true sports car. I don't actively dislike, so I'm not trying to breed controversy here, nor am I trying to define a "true sports car," I'd just rather have a Supra. Regardless, bottom line is, if you've got the money, a Viper has more performance than most drivers can deal with at all, let alone manage correctly. They have so much torque most people would probably poo their pants under full acceleration in a GTS. Lastly, referring back to the original post, there's a chance that a Honda Civic really did beat a Viper, but like most everyone said, it wasn't a Civic anymore underneath the body panels. It would have to be effectively 100% rebuilt, because there are few if any stock Honda Civic parts at all that can deal with the kind of torque and hp levels you'd need to smoke a Viper (unless the driver was totally inexperienced). CivicSiRacer 12-11-2001, 10:02 AM Street Races don't really show the whole aspect of a car. Yeah the car can be fast in a straight line, but it's all a matter of who's the better driver too. You can put a moron in a Viper and a good driver in a 1999 Civic Si and he could stomp the Viper. Or reverse the roles and the Viper will stomp the Civic. To really test the abilities of a car you need to take it on an autocross or road course. iLLuCiv99 12-11-2001, 12:03 PM Originally posted by servo411 1998 honda civic ex black aem cai 2 12 inch mtx 6000's alpine 4 channel amp mtx mono amp infinity 6.5's fronts infinity 6x9's rears alpine cda 7875 hu all monster cable del sol rims's blue neons viper 550 esp alarm w/ remote sta servo u got pics of ur car? ACCSlvCivic 12-12-2001, 02:01 AM My boi has a frankenstien Civic that eats those cars for lunch. He is running a 93 hatch no back seat, but full front seats and dash etc.. and still has sound system, takes out subs for races). He has a b20 block, b16 head, port and polished, a nice turbo (i think it's a T3/4 not 100% sure on that thought), and all the pistons, rods, etc.. to keep it from blowing the heck up. (see www.crvtec.com for build ideas). His setup puts out over 350+ hp to wheels (with boost up on 93 oct gas). He killed a mustang 5.0 built w/175 shot of nos in the 1/8 mile... 3 times.. i've seen him take all the cars you've named and more. never underestimate the power of a built hybrid engine w/turbo. and you are talking money... $2000 for junked car $4000 for bodywork and paint $12k for engine $1k optional for kit $1.5k optional for redone insides and car audio 18k total for a car that smokes vette, z28s, cobras, TAs, vipers (note, that these other cars are only modded to some extent, if they were fully modded they would obviously win) If you haven't see one of these CRVtec turbos in action, just watch and drool SiRedge 12-12-2001, 07:40 AM The record (that I last heard of) for a 1/4 mile by a Honda was set by a 5th gen (EG, or is it ED in the States?) Civic Ferio 8.93 @ 166 mph Backed up the next run with a 8.98 @ 168 mph. Serious money in that car, though. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
