2000 4Runner Doors Unlock but Won't Lock!

I have a 2000 4Runner Limited with electric door locks and remote keyless entry/alarm.

I can use the rocker switch on either door to unlock the door locks. I can also use the key fob to unlock the doors remotely.

However, neither of the door rocker switches will lock the doors nor will the key fob lock the doors remotely.

I don't think it is the rocker switches because it is unlikely that both of them failed at exactly the same time. Same for the key fob since neither of them work either to lock the door.

It also seems unlikely that all four solenoids failed at the same time. The door locks operate fine manually. There is no stiffness or sticking when the posts are pushed or pulled.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Another point of interest is the electronic climate control has been behaving strangely. That is to say, sometimes the buttons don't respond. I heard that there might be some kind of controller that all of the electronics runs through. Is this the case? Could the problem be a flaky controller burried deep inside the vehicle somewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have same problem with a 99 limited, also the backlighting on the climate control went out at the same time so there is a possiblility that they are linked through a controller

I fixed the door locks by replacing the controller located in the fuse block under the dash. You have to replace the whole fuse block. It has the controller circuit board in it.

I still haven't found a solution for the electronic climate control. It still works only when it wants to.

In addition to that, the emergency break light comes off and on randomly.

I don't know if the thing was hit by a bolt of lightening or what.

Has anyone else had electrical problems with their 2000 4Runner?

You need to inspect all wiring into fuse block and into the doors, if the fuse block is the fold down to acces type the wiriing will hing and short, same with wiring in runnin into the doors, it seems as if you have a simple short, but frustrating to find.
