Van just died spark was poor to nonexsitant... I changed the cap,rotor,wires,plugs and coil... Still no spark... I get spark off the coil wire,Blue when I put a plug in it and orange when I stuck a drill bit in it and sparked to the block... Before I change the pickup coil and module "will those parts cause no spark out of the cap"??? According to Chilton if I have spark at the coil wire I need to check the cap and rotor I tried 2 caps and rotors No Joy...

I also did some diagnostics as per Chilton...

12v going to 2 wire module plug from coil...
Disconnected 4 wire plug to module...
checked for voltage leakage on the tach wire..

All these tested good according to Chilton :0

Make sure that the coil wire is installed correctly..some coil wires have a longer boot on the coil end and a shorter boot on the dist. end...believe it or not, I have seen the coil wire installed backwards and cause a no spark condition...the female terminal on the wire won't snap onto the dist male end..
Check the resistance of the coil wire..should be less than 3k ohms per foot

Also make sure the distibutor is turning when the engine spins over.

The coil wire is on correct and both ends snap into place... I tried it with new coil wire as well as old... I am going to check the resistance now... Even though new I realise that new doesn't make it good...

The distributer is turning as the rotor is always in a different position when I yank the cap... still I will crank it with the cap off and make sure...

When you spin over the engine, the coil should produce enough spark to jump from the coil tower to the coil body (closest ground point).
If you install the coil wire on the coil and lay the other end near a ground, there should be enough spark there to jump to ground.

If the coil is sparking then the controls (module and pick-up coil) are working.

OK new developement...

The spark from the coil has deminished to almost nonexistant... I kind of thought it was weak yesterday and today I don't believe it is strong enough to jump the rotor to the contacts in the cap... I tested spark with a new coil wire from a small engine I had lying around the resistance was 1.2K ohms...

Don't buy cheap wires folks the resistance on my new 8" coil wire 9K ohms OOOSh-----

My pickup coil tests good with no shorts to ground so I am off to get a module and a decent set of wires...
