I just had my 10,000 mile service at the dealer. Asked them to replace my wiper blades. They called me later and said it would run about $90 to replace the two front blades. Anyone have an alternative place to get these blades? Thanks in advance.

If you only need the blades replaced you can just go to an auto parts store and buy replacement blades and do it yourself. This is a really simple job and should take you no more than about 5 minutes. I suspect the dealer is charging you for a full hour of labor and that's why its so expensive. If you feel better about buying VW OEM blades just go to the parts department at the dealer and buy them there and still do the work yourself.

I have a 2000 Passat and have always replaced the blades myself (2 sets per year) without any problems.

I've had the same problem with my 2002 passat. It cost over $50 for the set even if you install them yourself, which is ridiculous in my opinion. I checked different autoparts stores and have not had any luck finding replacements that fit the 02 passat. It is very frustrating. Even if you do one of those automated "find my refill" computer things they have at stores, it lists ones that will not work.

Anyone have suggestions?!?

the reason why they are so expensive is that they have a special silicone coating on them. thats why the water beads of the windsheild of the newer passats. and since its a dealer they are always a little higher priced then alternatives.

I am having exactly the same problem. I tried pepboys but none of their blades would fit in the arm. The dealer just gave me a quote of $25.75 per piece for the blade if I install it myself.
I once talked with another guy at the dealership who has the same car and was told he replaced the whole wiper arm with regular arms which you can change inserts afterwards. Not sure how to do it though.

Thanks very much for the info. The wiper on the 2nd link you gave doesn't look like one that you can use on 2002 Passat. I think I saw this one in Pepboys store and tried it, couldn't get it to fit in.

However, I saw this post about how to heck the wiper and put in regular wiper insert, it might be useful:
