Sunroof

I have a '97 DeVille with an open sunroof. It is stuck in the "vent" position (open ~1-2 inches). I have checked the power and the switch and they are okay. It sounds like the motor is trying to turn but I am not 100% sure of that.
This occured on one other occasion and after about a week, it operated normally again. On this occasion, I suspected that perhaps a bit of dirt had gotten into the switch and kept it from operating. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be that simple this time.
Can anyone offer suggestions, short of replacing the entire unit?

is it aftermarket or factory? if it is a webasto then sometimes the motor locks up it will sound like it is working but it isnt you need to pull the cover off the motor and just turn the motor buy hand while someone hits the switch let me know if this helps if nothing else this is how you will have to shut the roof
