Hello there. As of Tuesday, I will be the owner of an 89 Supercoupe. Completly stock, well maintained (A little old lady drove it! lol), and with about 220,000 km. The exhaust is needing replacment, and I'm wondering what you'd all recommend? I had sweettalker (pipes) on my beat up 78 bird, and it sounded good... But I'm not sure what mufflers will give me a bit of rumble, but without the classic ricer-fart sound that every civic/neon in town has... Also, what cheap fixes/mods do ya'll recomend for new SC owners? :) Your advice is apreciated.

Thanks.

Craig

well if you're able to settle for some down time, i sugest upgrading to the 92+ gas tank. the 89-91s had several 90* bends in the exhaust due to the path it has to go down the tank. the 92+ uses a more straight design.

as for the exhaust itself, i have magnaflow's on my 3.8 n/a and they sound wonderful. the perfect amount of growl. not too deep and not too raspy.

how much work do you plan on doing to it? if you're gonna keep it relatively stock, i recommend doing a single 2.5" into dual 2.5". if you're gonna beef up the engine a good amount, then i'd suggest going up to 3.0" single into 2.5" dual.

how do you plan on setting up the exhaust?
2-1-2 two pipes off the headers, into a single pipe, into dual pipes and two mufflers
or a two pipes off the headers, into one muffler with dual exits? the 92+ gas tank gives you room to run two pipes side by side down the exhaust channel (tho it'll be a tight fit)

again, how much work you wanna do to it? a raised SC top runs about $150 and it'll give you better flow. also recommend so new high flow cats, as the stock ones have about a 90* bend in them. MAC makes a new intake that looks nice.

and the first thing you should do is chop out the air silencer. it's a free mod that frees up like 1hp.
http://www.njtacc.com/tech/air_silencer.html gives a nice how-to.

anything else ya need? :)
