I just purchased a new 2003 GLX. I get an annoying whistle coming from my driver's side wing mirror. It dosen't happen all the time but when it does it can be heard with the windows opened or closed. If I collapse the mirror it goes away. The dealer can't find anything wrong. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I have an 04 Jetta 1.8t with the same problem. When I test drove the car, it wasn't a very windy day so I couldn't hear the noise.. Unfortunately for me, it didn't show up till I was the not so happy owner. It's much worse on a windy day, and sometimes if it's really windy it will do it just sitting still. It also makes a nasty noise that echos in the cabin at the lower part of the window sometimes. It's obvious that the airflow isn't smooth, it almost makes a crackling kind of noise. I thought I had a window seal problem till I opened the window one day and heard the whistle coming directly off the mirror area. When the mirror whistles it makes a hissing sound inside the car with the window up. Drives me nuts.

Dealer doesn't have a clue, when they drive it they don't think anything is wrong. I owned an 01 Golf that didn't have this issue. It was quiet, with just the regular wind noise. No whistles, etc..
I'm going on-line to price after-market mirrors. Gotta fix it somehow..
