I just purchased a 1996 Dodge Neon (base model). I installed my aftermarket stereo using a wiring harness (I did not cut any wires) and the appropriate plastic DIN mount. The stereo appears to work perfectly (I have installed many stereos before).

My question is:

Is it normal for the stereo to stay on after the ignition is shut off, the key is out of the ignition and the car door has been opened?

The stereo seems to stay on for 15-30 seconds - even after I have take the keys out of the iginition and close the door. The stereo plays as I walk away after locking the car!

I just want to make sure this is normal for these cars. I know with some other newer cars the stereo stays on until either the keys are removed from the ignition or until the door is open and then shuts off.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Some aftermarket stereo's will do that if there is still power running to it after the keys are pulled out. On my old 97 neon, my Kenwood CD player would play for about 10-15 seconds after I turned off the car. It was kind of neat to hear the radio playing as I walked away.

* Mod Statement* I know this post may be old, but I am trying to answer the questions with no/wrong replies, to get some useful info out there.

Ya,

I had a Clarion that stayed on after the car was shut off.

My eclipse turns off but my motorized faceplate will still move for a few seconds after the car is shut off.
