dying engine...Miataracer 09-25-2003, 10:12 PM So this evening I went out to my car to run to Blockbuster because I have nothing better to do with my night than watch a movie. I get in, start it up, it runs for all of about a second and dies. I think to myself, uh oh... this could be bad. Try it again and it starts up, slightly rough but it keeps running. On the way to Bloackbuster it acted totally normal. When I came out with a movie I had the same problem. Put in the key, start car, engine dies. I started it again and it kept running just like the other car. Just as a test I turned it back off, took the key out, put it back in and started it. Just like the other times it started up and died, then kept running on the second try. Any idea what this is all about? Nothing has changed with the car in at least 2 weeks. I hope it is simple because I am at school right now living in a dorm with no access to tools. hondaracer 09-27-2003, 03:38 PM I've had my last car do that to me once but than it never did it again after I started it a second time. Only once it happened to me and I'm still baffled on how it actually happened. My bro said it could have been my O2 sensor going bad but it never happened again so I just thought maybe it was just a coincidence. Weird S**T Milliardo 09-27-2003, 08:10 PM Check your battery. If you haven't replaced your battery for more than a year, it might be time for a replacement. Or it might be the starter. Miataracer 09-29-2003, 09:45 AM The problem is becoming more and more frequent. It's not the battery or starter, the motor cranks over fine. The problem is after it starts it will run for a few seconds (1 or 2) then die. When you start it back up it starts up somewhat roughly then comes back up to normal idle after a few seconds. No sign of problems when driving, only when starting. Cold or warm has nothing to do with it. I am thinking I am bleeding off fuel pressure somewhere...? Like if I had an injector leaking it would bleed off the fuel pressure, engine would start and run on what it had left of the fuel then starve out and die, after that it would run rough until it got fuel pressure back up to normal? Does that sound possible to anyone? I need to get this figured out before it gets much colder. dredinyonkers 09-29-2003, 12:31 PM i have the same problem.. but i have a cx..so it's expected...lol let us know when you figure it out.... maybe cheap gas?... esp 09-29-2003, 01:07 PM could be gas, not really sure run it all the way down and put some premium in it and maybe some injector cleaner vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
