Dash cluster changeouttuff71 09-24-2003, 04:16 PM Hello, I have bought anouther chevelle/malibu and was wondering, has anyone out there ever changed out the malibu dash with a SS dash. I know the pad is different but how hard it the wiring to do? The only reason I ask is the previous owner spent some money on a hood and emblems to make it look like an SS. But the dash is not. Thanks, Jason DGB454 12-02-2003, 12:01 PM I have never done it before but I have seen it on a couple other Malibus. As long as you purchase the harness I wouldn't think it should be too hard. A bit time consuming maybe but possible. wrenchin 07-04-2004, 03:14 PM I have never done it before but I have seen it on a couple other Malibus. I am in the process of doing this mod. to my elcamino and it is a pain in the rear trying to find info. I am 95 percent done and if you wish to ask ? feel free to. I am trying to find info on where to hook the ground that goes to the cluster, the munuals are very vague and I need direction. DGB454 07-11-2004, 08:21 AM The ground can hook just about anywhere there is metal. Just find a bolt hooks to the body that is near the ground wire. Good luck. Let me know how it went. chevelleluver 08-31-2004, 03:56 PM hi i have a 1971 chevelle malibu and i wanted to change the dash too, do you know some good online places to find one? and a price range? im also looking for a console for the floor, good luck with your chevelle :) DGB454 08-31-2004, 06:04 PM chevelleluver 08-31-2004, 08:21 PM thanks a lot for the site, they have a lot of cool stuff but the actual dash they have on the site is for a 69 and i have a 71, i dont mean to be picky but ya got any other good sites? if not thats ok ill just try my luck on ebay DGB454 09-03-2004, 11:19 PM They actually have more in their catalog than they show on their site. You can probably build an entire car from just the parts they have. Anyway...here are 3 more. http://www.chevelle.com/ and http://www.yearone.com/ and http://danchuck.com/ I have ordered from all of them. I like OPG best though. mason71 09-04-2004, 06:17 PM I was thinking about taking the panal that houses the orginal malibu gauges (speedo, fuel, clock) and making a new flat panal where i can but some Autometer gauges. I was looking at doing the ss conversion but it was too expensive. Havent looked into it very deeply though, what do you guys think? DGB454 09-06-2004, 08:10 AM You should have room under the dash or on the pillar where you can mount any extra guages you might want. I don't know if I would start messing with the original stuff if it is still working and in good condition. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
