67 Galaxiemoto-x 09-24-2003, 04:12 PM I was thinking about buying a 67 Galaxie but at the moment it only gets 10 miles to the gallon, on a good day. This is probably a really stupid question but what could I do to improve the gas milage? Right now it has a 352 police motor, fast. Would changing the engine be an option and if so would I still be able to get better gas milage and still go fast? Thanks for your help. 2strokebloke 09-25-2003, 07:46 PM Well you could switch engines, but with what you have right now you could try going with smaller jets in the carb, as most American cars where typically overjetted, you could possibly go a little leaner without too much danger of overheating the engine, but I'd ask the advice of somebody who really knows about these cars before trying this. galaxie500fb 09-29-2003, 07:37 PM try your question at the fe big block forum. I`ve got a 66 galaxie 500 fastback with a 390 4 bbl. And i don`t think i`m getting much better than 10 miles to the gallon. Just remember that this car weighs around 2 tons. You could try and change the rearend gears to 2.75. If fuel mileage is important than buy an escort. LucyBop 12-07-2003, 07:01 AM Honey, one doesn't own a 67 Galaxie and worries about gas milage... Maybe you need a ricer car....... :loser: n2racing 05-26-2004, 10:54 AM I had a 66 Galaxie Convertible with a 352 4bbl and got 16 with the air and 19 without. All I did was advance the timing a bit, add a good fan clutch, thermostat and change the gear oil in rear. I also had a 2.75 gear. Those figures came on a trip from Florida to Colorado loaded down. Double check your spacer plate under the carb. They had coolant passing through them to increase mileage and the choke operation. Watch out for leaks in the future so coolant doesn't get into the combustion chambers. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
