Intake Sensor Mods smasher54321 09-06-2003, 11:58 PM
I have a 2000 2.2L Cavalier and would like to add a little more power. I'm looking at cool air intakes, but recently I found "chip" on ebay that supposedly adds 20 hp by telling the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor that the air coming in is cooler than it really is. Have any of you tried this? Also, does simply moving the IAT to a seperate location have the same effect? Any help would be appreciated. perna00 09-08-2003, 06:41 PM the "chip" mod is just an inline resistor. it would work if you had an earlier cavalier but yours has an obd 2 computer an it would do nothing but set off a check engine code and run worse. moving the iac would make a difference but probably not very noticable. SpyhunterlV 09-09-2003, 06:21 PM do it if you like fouling o2 sensors and running really rich and wasting more fuel... and and and and other things too. onegalaxyaway 10-23-2003, 02:18 PM I just took the sensor and drilled a hole into my intake, then i put it in there. it works fine and eventually my check engine light went off. -what do you think about that? krebs128 10-25-2003, 12:45 AM do it if you like fouling o2 sensors and running really rich and wasting more fuel... and and and and other things too. that's the whole point, to make the car runner richer than it did stock. as a stock car, the ecu lowers the fuel ratio for better gas mileage, but runs leaner-but not enough to really damage the car. by replacing the chip, the car will run at true air/fuel ratio, more h/p, worse gas mileage.
