Intrigue electrical problem

1999 Intrigue. Bottom console HVAC Cluster is out. No air, blower, etc. Lights are alll out. Cool air is flowing so A/C system is working; controls are not. Checked every fuse in door and under hood and none are blown...all look good as new. Any ideas out there? Thanks!

I recall reading on a different web forum about someone with the same problem. Said that it turned out to be a bad ground on the back of that module. Should be worth a look.

I seem to have a strange problem with my outside thermometer. It seems to read about 10 or 15 degrees low sometimes. This usually happens when I start the car, and then after driving for 10 or 15 minutes it will go to normal. If it was reading high then I could understand that maybe it was getting hot from the engine. Has anyone seen this?

Holy cow ... I've experienced the EXACT same problem illinoiswronski.

I just purchased my '99 Olds Intrigue GLS about 2 weeks ago and only recently started noticing the little things you get when buying a used car. One of the distinct problems on my list was the external thermometer. Whenever I start the car, it reads 65 (or was it 66?) degrees. Eventually it will climb up to the actual temperature. However, this is not completely related with starting the car.

As I was driving to pick up the title today, I saw the temperature rise and fall multiple times as I took on "sharp" curves in the highway. Maybe it's loose wiring? Something electrical in nature? Possibly the thermometer itself?

I really don't know at this point in time. I've been searching for schematics or information to locate the parts linked with this particular feature and take a closer look at the wiring/hardware. Give me a heads up if you discover anything.

I had a '98 Intrigue with external thermometer issues.....bought a new one at dealer for $8 and cured the problem.....cheap fix if it is your solution.....it is a small black plastic probe, about 3" long that clips to the plastic air deflector behind the bumper.

I looked into the cost of replacing both the head unit and the thermometer. 8$ for the thermometer, like you said ... the head unit is about $560 =/

Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure its the thermometer. I hadn't mentioned it before, but the air turned on by itself twice. I had thought maybe I accidentally hit the wrong button when trying to turn it off, either pressing auto or merely hitting the A/C button itself.

However, as I was sitting in my driveway tonight about to turn the car off and head inside, it happened again. It makes me think that perhaps the problem is a little more extensive then merely replacing an $8 malfunctioning part.

Woah is me.

Until I get my schematics, I won't be able to correctly diagnose the problem, but at least now I know where to look for the external thermometer. Thanks ;-)

You're welcome! You can always start with the $8 fix......and see if that is all that is wrong before you assume it is more extensive....

The AC on my car turns itself back on when you turn the car off and then back on. It's some kind of relatively smart system though because when I turn it off during the winter it stay soff.

Regarding the external thermo problem, I fixed it on my car by removing the thermo sensor (as someone already described, it is under the hood by the rediator) and spraying a dab of WD40 in there and then plugging and unplugging it a few times. I think the connection was a bit corroded. I fixed this a long time ago and never posted the solution. Sorry.

What is the part number of the termperature sensor? I just had the HVAC head unit replaced, and now my external temp reads about 10-15 degrees HIGH. My wife, who drives the Intrigue, says it is no big deal, but I'd like to fix it if it is cheap to do so. Is there any calibration of the head unit display possible? Maybe the replacement head unit is just not matched to the sensing probe.

Thanks.

I have a 1999 Olds Intrique with a 3.8 V8 engine. The gas gage, temperature gauge and Tach have stopped working and the Service Vehicle Soon, Radiator Low water and Traction Lights are on all the time. When i try to read the codes with a code reader it searches for about one minute and then comes back with "NO LINK". The vehicle runs fine with no problems. There are no blown fuses. I have disconnected all of the control moduls under the dash in an effort to make the lights go out in order to trouble shoot the problem but I cannot get the lights to go out. I have pulled the fuse on the ECM and the lights continue to stay lit. I have pulled the gage/speedometer panel out and inspected it for bad solder connections but found nothing.
