ordered 04 spec-vkojak_nj 09-06-2003, 01:47 AM I just ordered a 04 molten silver spec-v with audio fanatic sunroof and abs/sidebags. I am so stoked delivery will be in about 6-8 weeks around november. Anyone hear rockford sound system? Stock 300 watts nine speakers sounds plenty for me. {Break in} period of this vehicle? Dealer said NONE!!! hmmm. I dunno about that. Sugg? How easy is 6 speed in this car? I'm afraid to miss shift or something 6 speed little scary looking. My only other car was a 95 mitsu galant automatic. This is my first manual trans. Pointers? I can't wait to race my 2 buddys. One has 03 rsx s and the other guy a 03 civic si. RSX stock and civic si an intake. GB Phoenix77 09-06-2003, 05:39 PM I just ordered a 04 molten silver spec-v with audio fanatic sunroof and abs/sidebags. Ditch the audio fanatic package. You can get a much nicer system put in for less money afterwards. Break In: I would take it easy for the 1st 1k miles. Don't race even though you will have a hard time resisting. Don't redline it, etc... Make sure you are VERY comfortable with a manual tranny and the six speed layout before you drive it hard. A miss shift can cost you $5000. 6th speed is no biggie. It's just like a 5 speed, just has one extra gear to drop into on the highway. Be very careful if you street race. I should tell you not to do it, but you would anyway, so I will save the fatherly advice. The Spec V is a serious machine and is more than capable of killing you if you don't know how to handle it. The RSX-s will most likely beat you until you are a very good driver. Then they are a fair match. The Civic SI will be no match. Anyhow.. welcome. Let us know if you have any questions. z33guy 09-06-2003, 06:19 PM sounds like a sweet ride, i wouldnt worry about the 6 speed. I havent heard any problems like i have on rsx's and gts's. Thats the color i was in line to get and still prolly will. :grinyes: sr20de4evr 09-07-2003, 10:34 PM I just ordered a 04 molten silver spec-v with audio fanatic sunroof and abs/sidebags. RSX stock and civic si an intake. the RF system sucks, like GB Phoenix77 said, you can do much better for the money. 1k break in is normal, tell the person who told you not to break it in that he's an idiot and shouldn't be selling cars. Basically for the first 1k miles keep it under 3k rpm (or around there, just don't redline it) and try to avoid driving at a constant speed for extended periods of time (long highway drives). the 6-spd should be just like a 5-spd with an extra gear, and at any speed where you would want to go into 6th the tranny will keep you from going into reverse, so you don't really have to worry about accidently doing that. Pointers for driving a manual? DO NOT RACE UNTIL YOU CAN SHIFT WELL. You can screw things up, burn through your clutch, and destroy synchros if you try racing before you really know how to drive a manual WELL. Give it a couple months minimum before you try racing. This should coincide with your break in period nicely, so it shouldn't really be an issue. AFTER you learn how to drive it well you should kill the SI. If your friend with the type s is a good driver then no matter how good you are he will beat you. Until you learn how to drive, shift, and especially launch well then both of your friends will beat you. The main bit of advice I can give you is just to take it slow. The break in period isn't just for your car to break in, it's also to help you learn how to drive your car well so that when you actually do take it up to redline, you can handle it. After the break in you can switch to synthetic oil if you like and start modding. kojak_nj 09-08-2003, 09:54 PM Hey guys thanks for the advice. I'm definitely not going to redline or come close to it until I First properly break the engine in and 2. Learn how to drive this car. I'm gonna be like an old grandpa on a sunday drive. Heck I might as well throw some hats up behind the rear seats like them old timers in their grand marquis. LOL.. ABS/Side airbags were really important to me shopping for this car. It was the only way I was buying a spec if they were either included or came as an option. Well, in the 2004 options if you order a spec with the ABS/Side AirBags, then the Rockford Soundsystem and Sunroof are automatically included. I promise you that. If you go check out some nissan dealership inventories and look for the abs/side air I can guarantee that you will see 1. sunroof 2. Rockford fosgate system. Don't ask me reasoning behind this. Maybe you guys have a little insight. In fact I did about 30 hours of research for this car and ended up knowing more about the spec options than any of the 6 nissan dealers I went too. They were all scratching their heads. I used to be all into loud and heavy bass I had 4 JL 12's with 2 optidrive 300 watt amps. I'm a little older "25" and past that whole "hey hear my $2,000 system now come steal it phase" So I'm just looking for a good quality sound. I can't wait for delivery! 6-8 weeks from now. One more question if anyone is still reading this. Does a dealer HAVE to put their gay sticker/decal on my car? Not black thing around my license but the thing that they actually put on the paint of my car! I don't want it on there. :banghead: sr20de4evr 09-08-2003, 10:32 PM I'm sure that you can request that they don't put one on. Just tell them that if they do you will just take it back off and if it does anything to they paint they will have to pay for it ;) Yeah I understand the whole thing about the airbags and rf system package. It sucks that they did it that way, but there's not much you can do about it. Atleast you'll get folding seats! GB Phoenix77 09-08-2003, 11:14 PM yeah... you can request that they don't put on the sticker. It is just a sticker so, if they forget, you can just take a hair dryer and warm it up and peel it right off. But, easiest if they don't put it on in the first place. I hear you with the options packages... I wanted a Sunroof really bad, but wasn't willing to pay for it and the Audio Fanatic package at the same time, so I ditched both. So, any performance mods planned yet? wahspec 09-13-2003, 05:39 PM nice purchase man, you're gonna love it. this is my first reply i just joined. make sure you tell them repeatedly to not put the sticker on, thats the last thing they do before they wheel it out for you to take home. i got my 2004 spec-v one month ago and it's the most enjoyable car i have ever owned. don't even worry about redlining it, you don't even need to, and the sixth gear is cake, unlike other six-speeds like the rsx it's really easy to shift and almost impossible to put it in reverse by accident. when i picked mine up it had the sticker on it even though i asked them not to, but they removed it for me the instant i reminded them, like the other man said all they have to do is warm it up a little. as far as problems the only things i've had are stupid little things that happen to a lot of brand new cars. watch out for the check engine light, there is a defect in the feul/gas tank sensor. your light will come on for basically no reason accept that you filled up your tank with gas and it jostled too much. they replaced mine and still it comes on. now they have to replace it again. the only other problem is to watch out for your trunk release button, some of the factories didn't compensate for the weight of the wing, and it doesn't work properly, the key works fine but the button on the keychain and the one inside don't work, i'm now waiting for that part to come in so they can fix it. just check it when you pick the car up. like i said no problems accept for little things that just cause headaches. nice choice of color i got the same color, the fozgate system is in it and it definitely sounds better than the stock system, but it's nothing to rave about. i didn't have to pay for it because i had a tough time getting the brembo's. ended up that they ordered me the spec, thought it had the brakes but it didn't, :frown: and i'd have to wait either till november for the brakes or take a price cut and take the one that came in without the brakes. it ended up having the system in it eventhough i didn't want it. :) the dealership didn't know squat about this car i knew more after looking things up on the net. they didn't even know the car came with optional brembo's and they didn't even know the car they gave me had the fozgate system in it. just keep an eye on your dealer, make sure you get a fair deal, and trust me man your gonna smoke your friend in the civic and love to race your friend in the rsx, just learn to drive the stick well enough first. sr20de4evr 09-13-2003, 06:31 PM the only other problem is to watch out for your trunk release button, some of the factories didn't compensate for the weight of the wing, and it doesn't work properly, the key works fine but the button on the keychain and the one inside don't work, i'm now waiting for that part to come in so they can fix it. just check it when you pick the car up. One thing you might check, since it seems your dealership is full of idiots (from the other things you posted). There is a security feature built into the b15 sentras that you might not know about. It's a little switch in the trunk right by the lid that, when flipped, disables the inside trunk release and the key fob trunk release, so the only way to get into the trunk is with the key. It's good if you have some valuables in your trunk (like a stereo system), you just flip that little switch and then if anyone breaks into your car they can't get into the trunk without the key, a crowbar, or the jaws of life. You should check because what you described is exactly what this little switch is supposed to do. It's right in the middle of the trunk, at the back, on the front side of the lip that the trunk lid closes on. You should see a little hole in the plastic trim and a switch that moves up and down inside there. wahspec 09-13-2003, 11:48 PM yeah at first i and the mechanic both thought it was the valet switch that was engaged causing the buttons not to work. we disengaged the latch and it worked while the car was parked and even after a short trip down the road to my house it still worked. but, the next day i went to open the trunk and the button didn't work again, so i brought it back in and it ends up that the weight of the trunk with the wing is either reingaging it because it wasn't compensated for, or it's just faulty altogether. so i told them to order me a new one and put it in. i didn't want to deal with them trying to fix it i just wanted it replaced. as far as i'm concerned thats what a waranty is for. thanks for the help anyway though, and by the way nice ride. sr20de4evr 09-14-2003, 12:54 AM ah, chances are it's just a faulty switch, and the vibrations and bumps from the road are making it fall into the "locked" position. All of the 00+ models have spoilers as options and I haven't heard of any of the switches acting up because of the weight of the spoiler, so it's probably just not latching correctly or something. Good luck with that, and thanks about the car, it's an on-going project ;) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
