What do you think is the best car movie ever? Any movie with muscle cars is a plus!

Gone in 60 Seconds was okay... The Shelby GT500 was beautiful, but there wasn't much else in that movie. The '68? Charger in the Fast and the Furious was nice, but it was the only nice car in that movie. And the '70? Challenger and '69 Yenko Camaro in 2Fast 2Furious were nice, but it wasn't that great of a movie. I guess the best movie out of these three would be Gone in 60 Seconds, since it had a decent plot. The first Fast and Furious sucked, and the second wasn't much better...

The Original Gone in Sixty was a good movie... a little too porn in a way... but then again it was the '70s. How can you not like a 40 minute car chase with over 90 cars wrecked??? And how they ended the car chace was even sweet.

I like Ron Howards 'Grand Theft Auto' where he steals I believe a '68 Camaro race car to impress some girl who just leaves him at the end of the movie. Women... ugh no respect for a good car. :banghead:

The Fast and Furious movies were OK... more comedy than car movie.

The remake of Gone in Sixty was... well It was there... I followed it right up untill Mr. Cage used the nitrous when his car was topping out at 8,000rpm at 120mph. What kinda car is that? Seems like it had no nuts if it was slowly building to 120... and at 8,000rpm?? THEN uses the nitrous.... like thats going to help. Just help blow the motor. Ugh that scene so gets under my skin.

Who can forget Bullit? The movie itself is fairly good, but a nice car chase scene thats legendary. In some of the shots of the chase you can see the Dodge totally leaving the Mustang behind... only in the editing room did they make the chase fair.

Vanishing Point... I've only seen the made for TV remake of it but I liked that alot. I hope to get around to seeing the real deal... which i've heard is pretty sweet.

Dazed and Confused... this movie really has no plot. But its a good excuse to show cool muscle cars and play great music. Plus lots of alcohol and drug use. It's set in 1976 so its pretty porn. Great movie!

All I can think of at the moment.

I have always liked Bullit. Sure, the Charger should have smoked that Mustang, the Charger loses 5 (yes 5) hubcaps, and that damn VW Bug appears like 10 times (all due to editing), but that is hands down still one of the best pure driving/chase scenes in any movie. And I love the fact that Steve McQueen did his own driving. Now that is a real actor.

Indeed, Steve McQueen was a real badass. You happen to ever see the Motorcycling Documentary titled 'On Any Sunday' by Bruce Brown. He's the same fella that made the Surfing cult classic 'Endless Summer'.

Anywho, theres a nice section of the movie on Mr. McQueen. Cool guy.

Come on, people!!!! Aren't we forgetting the createst car movies ever?!?!?! Smokey and the Bandit, Ronin, and The Blues Brothers.

Smokey and the Bandit is all chase, no plot. Good stuff

Ronin isn't really a car movie per se, but it has great chases, going the wrong way in heavery traffic, etc

The Blues Brothers is pure classic. Not really any cool cars but the cops have lots of wrecks

Oh, and lets not forget Herby the Lovebug!!

     :licka: :licka: :licka: :licka: :grinno: :grinyes: :shakehead

Best car movies for me would be of course:
Bullitt
Two Lane Black Top
Hot Rod

A few other ok car related movies are:
Gone in Sixty Seconds (Both of them)
Catch Me if You Can -not the new one this was an older cheesy straight to video movie.
Cobra
American Graffiti
Smokey and the Bandit (all of them)
Cannonball Run (all of them)

There are many more I am sure but I am drawing a blank.

I agree with Ronin. That has some great driving. The Audi is cool, and the wrong way in traffic in a tunnel. That was some amazing driving. Even more amazing is that the driving was real - no camera tricks or blue screens.

But Herbie? A good car movie has amazing cars and/or amazing driving scenes. No offense, but Herbie had neither.

Granted the Cuda in Phantasm was sweet, it wasn't a movie about cars.

I was kidding about Herby there. I haven't watched that movie since I was a little kid, and it has no cool cars.

How about the Bad Boys movies? There are some sweet cars there. :licka:

Good to hear Herbie was a joke. I haven't seen those movies since I was a kid too - and I thought they were lame then.

Speaking about car cameos, how about the Challenger in Blade. Now that was a nice car. I also loved all the different cars in Cannon Ball Run. The Lambo was my favorite.

But for car as the star, hands down it has to be Christine. That was a beautiful 1958 Plymouth Fury - even if it was pure evil!

GUMBALL RALLEY had some cool cars

Musclecarclub , BLADEs car was a CHARGER . just for future reference . :evillol: :grinno:

My mistake - thanks for catching that. Maybe it's time I rewatch Blade again. I haven't seen it for awhile. I love the scene when his sidekick is filling it with gas while smoking a cigarette. Classic!

Anyone remember young Luke Skywalker in Corvette Summer??? Not a whole lot of car action but a terrific car movie nontheless.

And you can't forget about MAD MAX.

Mad Max is definitly near the top, but nothing could ever top the Cannonball Run movies.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone here ever seen the third cannonball run movie? It was subtitled Speedzone? It opens with a guy in a countache running from the cops then cuts to a dad teching his son how to skip stones across a pond, then the countache comes tearing down the dock and skips across the pond away from the cops. I haven't seen it in years, not since I was a kid but my friend just won a copy off ebay from someone in sweden. Just as soon as we can get it encoded on the computer we're gonna watch it. It's so rare we didn't want to waste any of the quality of the VHS by watching it before we encode it to digital.

For sure! That movie was classic - John Candy driving around in that Benz or BMW with that hot broad. Cheech Marin is in it too. Lots of stars just like the first few cannon ball runs.

i almost forgot about speedracer and the mark five. What other car could drive through a forest and press the #3 button on the steering wheel and have a giant saw cut a giant path.

Final Destination had a really nice black Nova SS, but the movie didn't really show it very much, and it got hit by a train.

Yeah, I hate it when they wreck nice cars in movies. Like in the Fast and the Furious, when they bring out the Charger, I'm like, "finally, a sweet car," then they wreck it :banghead:

There were some ok cars in that movie though, like the Supra TT... pretty nice :licka:

Yeah the Supra was ingenious. "The standard Supra wing isn't big enough, lets put one of those giant aluminum ones on it." "Great idea!!!"
