98 Cav overheats only when not using heat/ac venus 09-01-2003, 03:01 AM
My 98 Cav started overheating only when the AC/Heat isn't on. The fan will come on when I use the AC/heat but not when I have them off. I placed coolant in the bottle and it is up to the correct line there. What else can check? Thanks! venus 09-02-2003, 04:20 PM Nobody knows anything about this? TheSkoolBus 09-02-2003, 05:15 PM you should check your thermostat ... if thats what it is then it is no big problem . they are very cheap. look at your manual to find where it is located on your car. i believe its towards the front of the engine tho aj178 09-02-2003, 07:26 PM http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/geforce0/Image1.jpg since we're on the topic of overhearting my 99 cavy goes to that temp im getting a little worried, its not at half or anything seem a bit more than half to me.. can anyone help? the fan is coming on and everything so i dont know if theres a problem or not. maybe its the thermostat how can i check if its working right? Tinytim12333 09-02-2003, 08:02 PM Normal operating temperature!!! Nothing to worry untill you get close to the red line, thats it. Check to see if your fan is coming on, and i forget how to check the thermo. aj178 09-02-2003, 09:17 PM hope your right, yeah the fan does come on, i also turn on the a/c i thought it would be the opposite and will heat the car up but actually the a/c in this car makes the fan turn on therefore cooling the car.. i guess i jsut got used to driving my mothers car its a toyota and the damn gauge stays right smack in the middle Flatrater 09-02-2003, 10:15 PM If its not steaming, bubbling in the overflow or the gauge isn't in the red you are not overheating! If you notice there isn't any temp readings on the guage, its just a fancy idiot light!! aj178 09-02-2003, 10:36 PM the only thing that gets steaming is the coolant but i think its supposed to do that  .. doesnt bubble out or anything aj178 09-03-2003, 03:06 PM hey guys ive been thinking about flushing the cooling system on my cavy how do i go about doing that, some steps might help. i dont feel like paying for it if its simple enough and i can do it myself. NAT Mav 09-06-2003, 07:10 AM I have a '98 as well and my temp gauge stays right where yours is in the picture. The only time I've ever been worried about it is stopped in traffic for 10+ minutes on a very hot day, even then it never got more than 3/4ths of the way up. clubcav_com 09-19-2003, 01:16 PM i had a similar problem, but vice versa, so it overheats when the ac or heat IS on...u should get a cooling fan override switch...just hook a wire into your cooling fan and battery, then put a switch in the middle and mount it somewhere inside your cavy so u can turn it on whenever ur car is on Moderator www.ClubCav.com Cavalier forums and photo albums www.ClubCav.com Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
