Shifting problem. Gearbox or Trans? Need help!kevin808 08-31-2003, 01:01 PM Gear shifts are getting more difficult as my car gets older. My engine is a d16z6, with 116,000 miles in a stock 95 ex coupe. The clutch plate is gettting a bit worn because its engaging more tword the top of the clutch peddle release, but I don't think this is the problem. As I shift from one gear to another (Any gear to any gear) it hesitates in the nuetral area and I have to push a bit hard to get it to pop into gear. In high rpm shifts from 1st to second sometimes it will grind for a split-second, and then pop in. I was told by an x-honda mechanic that it could be the syncro? Thoughts on this? Is it a hard fix? How much will it cost? Etc. Thanks! BullShifter 09-01-2003, 12:49 AM try adjusting the clutch cable I'm guessing its a mix of both tranny synchro/gear & clutch problem. Manual trans rebuild should be left to the pro's unless you know what your doing. Its easier & sometimes cheapier to swap in a re-built trans. AciDriveHB 09-01-2003, 02:45 PM Yeah I know what you mean kevin808, my 94 tranny acts the same way from going from first to second. I've found that I have to make sure the clutch is pushed in as far as possible and then slam from first to second to make sure that doesn't happen. jackasssi - Is there anything bad that could happen from adjusting (or trying to) the clutch cable? I will look it up in my Haynes manual and maybe give it a try. Regards... ~AciD kevin808 09-01-2003, 06:37 PM Thanks, that would help me out a lot. mfmark5007 09-02-2003, 12:02 AM It looks like this guy should try double clutching....on his way to the mechanic. If your tranny is grinding a lot, theres more problems other than the clutch. Clutch cables/peddles should be adjusted as clutches wear, if its adjusted too much you will either have too much free-play or partial engagement. Sniff sniff, whats that smell? That be your clutch burning up. :nono: AciDriveHB 09-02-2003, 06:50 PM jackasssi - Thanks for the tip, I guess maybe it's about time to do that since I think it was probably never done. I know what you mean if it was doing it a lot it would probably be something worse, but this happens on a rare occation and I thought for awhile it was just me being a bad driver. But I will try this clutch cable thing out and see how it goes. I will be having fun playing with it though I bet trying to get it right :banghead: ~AciD vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
