Im trying to get a short shifter installed and came across this website. I know the difference between the B&M shifters and the cheap EBay immitations. But what is the difference between these two short shifters (besides the price) I'm pretty sure that all B&M shifters must be high qulity, but one of these is 90 bucks cheaper than the other one. Does anyone know if they all come with everything I need to replace the WHOLE shifter, not just the stick, or is the cheaper one just the stick?

I've never heard of a short shifter that came with more than just a stick... I mean that's all it is, just a new shifter stick that is shorter. I bought my neuspeed one for $100 and it came with a stick, polyeurothane inserts, and grease to lube up the ball joint, and I'm happy with it.

Hmmm, I thought the Ebay ones came with just a stick and nothing else, and the more expensive ones came with add ons to make it tighter. Oh well, does anyone own either one of those 2?

I don't own either of them but I'm assuming the $139 one comes with the inserts. I would get that one if I were you, that way the stick won't wiggle around while in a gear.

I'm sorry but this is pretty funny. A "real" short shifter is not just a shorter shift nob, its a modification to your shift linkage cables that enable you to shorten the gear engage distance on the shifter assembley. If you paid $100 for a neuspeed short shift adapter and all they gave you was a stick and some grease I'm sorry but you got ripped. Anyway, it's all up to the driver's preferance.

I bet you never thought to find out what he drives, a CIVIC, yeah, civics and integras are linkage type shifitng, no he didnt get ripped, it is a shifter that the distance from the pivot ball to the pivot point where it bolts the linkage is greater, which reduces the distance between gears and also reduces the sidewards motion between 1+2, 3+4 and 5+R a bit.

the accord and prelude shift using cables, that is where the short shifter is the little thing that modifies the way the "cable" works.

I thought he was talking about some short shifter that came with a new shift linkage, which I've never heard of, so I didn't know. But yeah you're right teg now that I think about it Civics are setup differently than them.

Thank you 94tegRS. I have'nt been here in a while and the farther down I read this thread the more I was amazed at how off people are.

Ok, now back to the actual question of this thread. I believe the more expensive one is height adjustable and the other one isn't. I know both of them come with the required hardware, grease, and bushings to install them. I'm debating right now whether I should get the b&m or skunk2. Hope this helps.

I'v got a b&m and I think that it just fine...well better then fine(counterwight at the botttom more postive shifting....). I heard that the skunk2 is a little short then the B&m. Plus it comes in a bronze graish color.

If you are going to spend the $ then go w/ the B7M,NEUSPEED or SKunk2. They are each top notch and if you ask around on any of them you will hear how much they are liked. Plus there are a few reviews that rate them well...The thing w/ Egay shifters are that they usually end up breaking after jamming into second a few times. been there done that and it's $$ that could have been spent on a GOOD short shifter the 1st time.
Good luck on your choice..

If you dont plan on buying a new tranny in the next year or two I would stay away from the short shifters. Even if your a good driver it will still shift your gears faster than they were meant too. Your sinchros will go bad.

Holy crap man, it's the same as if you had a normal shifter and shifted fast. Maybe it happened to you because your car's a piece of crap, but I had a short shifter on my dx engine/tranny for 2 years and nothing went wrong, and I drove the shit out of that thing.

I have a E-Bay one, it works great - is a much shorter throw - stock height.

My friend has a B&M in his civic

Mine has a much short throw then his but out of both of them I like the feel of the stock integra shifter - I think it was short enough just the way it was to not miss any gears or anything.

um, my friend's Integra's shifter feels like I'm pulling on a 4ft pole when I drive it, but prolly because I'm just used to mine..

Maby I'll wait until next week to post again so she will get off her period.

great if your tranny hasnt gone bad yet, but sounds like you dont know how sinchros work or how fast shifting affects them. A dx you say whats the point of having a short shifter in a 17 sec. car???

Im here trying to help and you guys just talk shit like its going to prove something.

Ill post when I go to the track with my car so you "REAL MEN" with your big mouths can talk to my face and see what happens.

Try 14 second car douchebag, I had nitrous on it. You put the "ass" in "assumptions".. I know how synchros work and I know shifting gears with a short shifter won't fuck em up unless you grind every shift. I like to have the clutch in when I shift, so maybe since I know how to work a standard that's why it never went bad.

Your supposed to push in the clutch when you shift?!?!?! :naughty: :grinno:

haha yeah last I heard... S13GTR thinks since he can't drive nobody else can either, and buying a shifter will screw up your car :bloated:
