I'm looking at this '97 GT Sedan with 140,000 miles on it and I am wondering how long these cars typically last. Do these cars have transmission problems or transfer case problems or any other major problems that show with age?

I want to know this too. I'm getting one with 100,000 miles on it. Thanks everyone

from what I've heard, most people are replacing the auto trannie around 130k, but I'm far away from that, so I can't really comment there. Be careful with the 2.5 engines though, as they're known for blown head gaskets. I think 200k is a pretty good rating for these engines, but some have said they've gotten 300k out of them.

Subaru 2.5 engines are very prone to head gasket problems. Mine went around 200,000 km. Cheap parts, expensive labour..! Although, it would not have been so bad if the dealer had changed the gasket on the first visit..... before the water pump, gaskets, etc etc...!

Other than headgasket and the AT beign a little weak (as long as you dont abuse it) the cars are bricks, and so are the engines

I'm at 110k and I haven't had a problem with my AT, my engine is another story though had a little misfire problem but that got fixed, cost a pretty penny though.
