I have a 97 Jimmy and having the same problem, sometimes wipers work, sometimes they don't. My sister has the same problem on a '97 Blazer, checked the fuses, they are OK, was going to replace wiper motor, would this be a good next step? Any help would be appriciated

I have also had this trouble on my 97 Jimmy. I had recieved a safety recall on it, although this was not a true recall, it was replaced for free at the dealership. The problem is the curcuit board failing. So the only way to correct this problem is by replacing the wiper motor. Hope this helps.

Just to let you know if you haven't heard already there is a factory recall on the wiper motors. Take your vehicle to the local dealership and they should take care of it for no charge.

I also have the same problem. When was the recall officially announced? Must have been recent because I remember I was sent a recall letter a year ago for the seatbelts.

I am having a similar problem with my windshield wipers, but since my Jimmy is a 1998, GMC is not recognizing it in the special policy. So now I have to pay close to $200 for the repair.

After years of erratic wiper function, it finally croaked in a rain storm. Dealer said it was recalled and bring it in, I did. Dealer then backed off saying the VIN was two months too early to be fixed ... although the module is the SAME EXACT DEFECTIVE PART. GMC Customer Service said, "Sorry, it IS the same exact defect but it is outside the date." Regional Manager said the SAME THING, "Same part but not recalled, don't know why."
I wrote a letter the Mr. Wagoner, Jr. the GM CEO but I have not received and do not expect a reply.
I have purchased two new 2003 cars this year ... yes, Japanese cars made in USA of USA components by AMERICANS ... and I have a dozen milestone/classic cars in my collection ... NEVER AGAIN will I buy a GM product.
Thanks for your ear.

I had the same problem as you guys. My wife owns a 97 and I own a 98. Hers was listed on the recall and mine wasn't. When I took hers to the dealer, he said that only the 97 was recalled even though they both share the same circuit board. He showed me what causes the failure. The connector uses solder to connect to the board. Over time it vibrates and breaks the connection. The new board has a strain relief near the connection to prevent this.

However, I fixed mine with just a little bit of solder. To fix it, remove the circuit board from the motor housing and find where the connector mounts to the board. Using a soldering iron and some quality solder, re-solder this connection except add a little more than the original connection had. That should do it. mine has been working fine now for over a year.

Good luck,
Jeff

I also had problems with the wipers on my 89 C2500 Silverado. The wipers would work on low and delay only intermittently. Being outside the recall dates, I opened it up and found a broken trace on the circuit board. See my web page for a description of the 2 minute fix.

Thanks a lot Jeff. I was dealing with the same problem on my 1996 Sierra. As I had stored the truck for the winter I missed the March 31, 2004 deadline for dealer replacement of the module. Just before putting down my couple hundred dollars, I checked this forum. It took about 20 minutes to remove the circuit board (three 'Torx' screws and a bit of prying), and re-solder the connections nearest the wire connections. It works like new now!

Ok, where do I find this circuit board? What am I looking to solder?

I have a '98 Jimmy with the same problem.

Remove the cover on the windshield wiper motor and you'll find the board. The wiring harness is attached to the connnector that is soldered to the board. Then follow the instructions from my previous post.

good luck.

I have a 97 chevy pickup. Wipers and washer pump both quit. I replaced circuit board but still does not work. Does the motor run the wipers and washer fluid pump? Im stuck with a 7 day rain forecast and no wipers and would like to fix this problem myself.
