The newer the motor the better and i definitely need a five speed cause there is no other way to go. Is there a certain year that has a higher output or are they all the same. I drive a '96 so I would like to have something where I could just drop it in. Thanx for the help y'all. :smokin:

Bu's 3.1 and you would need to get the trany and all that stuff, but it wont work on your old tranny cuz its too much power.

Between the '95+ motors which would have the most horsepower? My guess would be the newest Z24 engine but what do I know. I don' t want to drop the older 3.1 because I am looking for something relatively simple. Also I would appreciate it if someone can let me know where I can find one of my desired motors; I've been looking everywhere and still no luck. Like I said before I need a 5-speed because thats the best way to enjoy the horses and the motor doesn't have to be new but I would like something with low miles (less than 30k). Thanks y'all

2.4L's weren't available in 91-93...

it was the 2.3L quad 4 that was available.. and they were never rated anymore than 190hp stock..

if he has a 1996, he's OBD-II so he'd have to figure out the wiring for an OBD-I motor. the 2.4L in the 96+ cars had a cam sensor in the cam housing. and that housing is not compatable with the hotter cams from the older high output 2.3 motors..

and there is a bit of a difference between 2.4L motors...
96-99.5 they all had an egr system, along w/ a different type of injector, knock sensor, power steering pump placement and starter..

99.5-01 had no egr system, smaller starter, and the differences I stated above..

3.4's in the n-body don't have 200hp stock.. they have 185hp...

but for that swap you'd need the wiring harness, the motor, the transmission, find someone who wants to do the wiring, and custom mounts that you will need to perform the swap..

and you can forget about road racing the car since it's going to be even more nose heavy than ever before..... and you're stuck w/ an auto so you can forget about road racing even before you thought about the swap....

um.. 3.4's are overrated for what they are.

200 hp is at the crank, 185 is about what they dyno at the wheels

trust me it's not 200 at the crank.. you're confusing the tq number...

they dyno at waaaay less than 185hp...

obviously if my tiny underpowered 2.4L pushing only 142hp to the wheels on two bolt ons can spank the shit out of a 3.4L, it's definately not 185 to the wheels...

do yourself a favor and ask that very same question to the guys at http://grandamgt.com ... they're a bunch of 3.4L meatheads...
