Odd noise winding/spinning and clunking maybe trans ??? lacon666 08-12-2003, 07:53 PM
i have a 97 chevy suburban k2500 4x4... and i have 2 noises i can't figure out... 1. when i drive uphill i hear a clunk... and a slight jerk. (i don't think i loose power nor do i feel the transmission getting out of gear... but maybe its trying too?? 2. when i go down a hill and try to slow down with the tranny in 3rd gear... it will slow for a bit, but then i hear a winding or possibly spinning noise. When this happens the RPMS drop from approx 3k to about 1k and it feels like it is coasting in neutral. when this happens if i hit the accelarator it goes back to normal. if i brake with brakes the downhill symptoms don't occur. i suspect the 2nd item is related to the tranny.... but does anybody know if this will require an overhaul of the tranny? or is it recommended? or is it something simple like a sensor?? the first item... i have no idea what it might be... does anyone have a clue???? do you suppose this will go away if i overhaul the tranny?? in addition to the above i should mention that everything functions perfectly under no load in flat areas. shifting is no problem... i can hit 90mph without any issues... symptoms only occur if it is a steep uphill or downhill. please send me some advice..... i don't mind spending $1k to overhaul my tranny if the symptoms will go away. thanks in advance dave Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
