I have a 1997, Dodge Dakota, V6 gas engine, manual transmission, truck with 100,000 miles on it. Two of the exhaust manifold studs on the right side snapped so I took the truck in for service. When the right head was removed to take out the broken exhaust maifold studs, the machine shop discovered a crack between the intake and exhaust valve in the #2 cylinder (head). After this I had my mechanic remove the left side head and I am told that it is also cracked. This engine has not ever been over heated or frozen and has not been used for heavy service. Are cracks in the cylinder heads a common problem with the 3.9L V6 engine, or did I just get a lemon?

I had the same problem with my V-8 dakota. It seems to be a common occurance for whatever reasons. Some of my local area friends with dakota's had head gasket problems too. Check with these guys, really honest. He fixed me up and i haven't had any other problems. john.southeastrt@verizon.net 813-886-6166
