ABS Light

The "abs" and "brake" light went on in my mothers '98 3500 Ram Wagon. She said the brake pedal went "soft" while she was driving it; but then everthing returned to normal. Took it for a drive and checked the fluid; everything seems ok. Any advice before I take it to the dealer?

There are so many new electronic gadgets that are connected to the brake sysems now, I would say bring it to the dealer and have thems run a diagnostic on it. If it's an intermitten problem, they might be able to turn up something from data stored in the computer.

i have this problem too, it is intermittent and gets on my nerves, when i go to get it checked out, it will work properly but when i am driving normal, it happens, does anyone know what this is, cause the mechanics where i live will tell you the whole break system needs to be replaced just to get your money :banghead:

dirt and grime buildup in the ABS sensors, or one has gone bad. :bigthumb:
Primarily this seems to happen on the rear. Check the sensor(s) for dirt, and the connection, or replace them (cheap) before you waste you hard earned money on a "diagnostic" and a blood sucking dealer-servicer, or MIDAS... (MIDAS-well-bend-over)
Good luck,
