Wheel bearing replacementchoco 08-06-2003, 10:16 AM Folks, I own a 1996 240sx and the front axle wheel bearings are shot. how difficult it is to replace them. I called the dealer and they said I need to replace the whole wheel assembly, which already has the bearings in it. this sounds easier than removing the bearings alone... but I need some help on how to do it... thanks... Dorikin 08-06-2003, 06:12 PM Any more details? Have you checked with an independent mechanic. Usually dealers are a scam. spindrift187 08-07-2003, 02:56 AM Girlfriend had hers replaced today, the parts cost $60, took about an hour for her uncle to do. So it shouldn't be too hard. As on actually how to? Notta clue sorry NismoFreakS14 08-07-2003, 05:02 AM Only tools you should need are a bearing packer, bearing grease, and hand tools to get to them. If the car has had any impact in the front, ie. curb, car, etc. Then you might want to give the wheel a spin to check the hub runout. A bent hub will eat wheel bearings. choco 08-07-2003, 02:51 PM I dont know if the car has had an impact, it doesn't look like. but what the mechanic tells me is that the bearings are dry (as in no grease) and are making a lould noise when driving... I called several places and nobody sells just the bearings alone, they all tell me 'its a dealer item'. Now the car is really loud and will not drive it to avoid bigger problems. anybody knows where to buy those bearing alone anywhere? somebody said that they costs $60, I wonder where was that? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
