Question about my T88 on my 95 RX

Alright, to lay it out, check my sig for my modifications. Right now the only thing that's actually ON the car is the strut bar, rims, hood and suspension. All that was only installed because it was too much trouble to ship it seperately from the car. We're installing ALL of the rest of the stuff over labor day weekend.
Reason being is that I'm kind of hesitant to put on that T88... Is there anything I need to change? I mean I know that turbo's got a lot of power and to be perfectly honest I do not know much about turbos, I've got no problem telling everyone right now. I've got a friend coming that knows how to install them but I'd hate to have that thing spool up and take off and have my engine blow. Anything I need to fix/reinforce, etc before I put it on the track?

Before i even get close to installing a T88 i would already have a few base maps for it on the haltech.

you say you have bigger injectors, but how big? And why go with a turbo that massive before you have ported your engine anyway, or have you..

But for now, i would consider the following:
Calculate # of injectors and sizes, don't be afraid of going to a terterary aux set.
GO standalone ECU, Power FC's suck, compared to the Haltech/microtech/etc

bigger fuel pump, consider getting a J&S knock sensor

I can certainly go more into depth, but do some research, look into other people's setups with T77/T88 and come back....

I had a T77 on my 1993 and it was insane.
Watch out when the T88 spools there is like an hour of lag, then it hits so hard you could swallow your teeth.

Yea so I hear about the lag. I got to ride in a T88 Supra that was my friends. Insane power. Ridiculous lag.

I didn't even really ask or pay for the T88 it came in the trunk of the car and I'd be damned if I didn't keep it. I'd love to have that power but like I said I don't want to bust my engine wide open.

This is exactly why I didn't put it on... I want to know just what I need. The guy that I bought it from ordered the injectors for me but it looks like he's just going to keep them for his T88 MR2. Same guy with the Supra. He's obcessed with the T88 don't ask :P

I'll definately look into everything you said. What kind of fuel pump do you think would be best? Any particular brand you'd recommend? I'm so new to this turbo thing... I feel like a deuchbag asking all these questions. Thanks for the help, though! APPRECIATED

...I just found out it comes with 850cc injectors already so he's keeping those ordered ones. How much does it generally cost to port a rex and how long does it take?

I've always used Walbro fuel pumps

It doesn't' take long to port a rotary. The thing is though, doing so you are rebuilding the engine in the process..

By porting a rotary you are changing port-timing characteristic... essentially the same thing as going to a bigger cam(s) in a piston engine.

the T88 would be a waste unless you ported the engine first, atleast a street-port.

Personally, i would sell the T88, do a small bridge port, rebuild the stock turbo's or maybe goto a ball-bearing T66 (maybe smaller) turbo...

Lightweight flywheel ACT clutch, larger secondary injectors, Haltech, run the stock secondaries as a third aux set fired from the haltech...
etc etc...

so u dont know much but u r doing it urself with ur friend. O....k.
What wastegate u got?
I would get a GT3540, best turbo for 13B, For that my mechanic uses 4X 1000cc, so u would need bigger injectors than that.
GT3540 has 15PSi by 3500rpm in a street ported engine so not much lag as it is roller bearing. My friend got 500RWHP on a dyno dynamics on 22PSI.
T-88 on a 13B will be pretty crap I think.

I'd get a new radiator and oil cooler too.
Also what computer u got, I missed if u wrote it or not.

Hey, come on don't be like that. I prefer to do things myself. It helps me learn how to do the things I don't know how. Also, my friend just graduated a 2 year auto mechanics school, second best in the nation if I remember right. So, yes, I'm doing it with my friend.

...And It's not so much that I don't know a lot about modifying these (which I'm happy to admit I don't) but more like the whole rotary thing has always been somewhat omnimous to me.

Right now it's at the mechanics, they were/are going to put a RE-Amemiya ECU with a laptop in it.

They're also putting in a 850cc injectors and 1060cc aux?

1060? U mean 1600cc? u will need more than 2X850 and 2X1060cc if thats what it is.
And about the RE am (however u spell it) is it in japanese, do u know ppl who can tune it?
And ur not gonna rebuild ur engine urself are u? Do u have the proper mazda tools?
Sometimes its better to pay ppl who know what they are doing to doit rather than do it urself.
U are going to bend and fabricate the manifolds for the turbo and exhaust urself? Do u have a mandrel bender?

Yes it's Japanese, I didn't install that myself a company in Las Vegas is installing and tuning it for me. I'm not rebuilding the engine myself either. I'm not doing the turbo manifolds, I've got the manifold with the downpipe already.

A t-88 is insane I would recomend the T66 and you will need to step up your injectors to something around 1200. The t88 on 3.0 supra is completly different than a t88 on a 1.3 RX7 you would never see enough boost till high rpms. Its over kill plain and simple unless all you want is a drag car.

I was just tryng to let u know how hard it is, but if u can do it well then good luck to ya man, the only thing is turbo size, if it is too big once u put it on, talke it off and put a GT3540 on, u wont be disappointed with that!
