listing a car you don't own in your vehicle profile is not cool and has led to the downfall of many a member. put something like "soon..." at the end or "i want..." at the beginning.

With the money you save by buying a 240sx, you could purchase a whole SR20 swap.

the celica is nice, but man, dont make ur parents buy something YOU dont want..

have them help you with a 240.. let them see the light.
cause i can tell if ur mom wants to buy THAT and only that car, its because of 2 of 2 reasons

1) she wants to help her friend out and doesnt wanna give money to a stranger
2) she wants to drive it

Save your own money and buy the 240sx.Am I the only one who thinks there's so much more pride in a car that you paid for yourself? Not only that but I've settled on a car I kinda wanted jus cuz I didn't want to wait, after awhile you'll b pissed at urself.

BTW, weird cuz my first car was a celica my mom bought(91 ST), actually wanted a 240sx, but now I got it again, for the third time, and I wish I woulda waited, cuz it woulda been hooked up nicely by now :bigthumb:

What model is the Celica? If it's anything less than the GT-S I'd say get the 240. I own a auto 240 and have driven a manual Celica GT, and I'd say my 240 can take the GT. Another plus is the 240 is RWD, which is far superior(and fun to drive in my opinion) than FWD. Once you go RWD you won't go back :).

dude a 5 speed Celica will smoke a 240sx no problem. They easily run in the 15's... what does a 240sx do again? 16? 17? Celicas are pretty nice plus the inside is cool, a dude I worked with gave me a ride in his and it was pretty fast for a stock car... Pulled nicely.... plus FFS its almost new, and its FREE, your parents want to give u this.....

momma always says stupid is as stupid does

190hp>135-155hp

and they could even be lighter I dunno...

Yea but the GT-S is the one that has 190 hp i didnt think that the GT had 190 and why are u saying that a celica would smoke a 240 when ure name is sr20power, i have no room to talk cause i dun know much but doesnt an sr start out with 250? Just a question

keep the suggestions coming though this is helping alot

how much are your parents dropping on the celica? why don't you look for a good 240 in the same price range and show them how much better it is?

Because a stock celica of any trim, the non GT-s Models have 185hp I think... will whip any stock 240sx..... NOTICED I SAID 240sx... and it might even beat an s13 180sx stock, would be a drivers race, i think the Celica is lighter then the 240 although I could be wrong. Yes my name is sr20detPower, thanks for noticing. base Sr's have 205hp to the flywheel, newest S15 chassis SR's have 250hp and run a good 5 grand for the engine. 5 grand for a S15 SR20 vs 5 grand for a Rb26deTT muhahah!!!

240sx isnt the best car to drag race with but with work and a dedicated individual with money it can accomplish things. 240sx=slow..... but I still love em.....not as slow as some things but it defintely isn't the fastest import out there, especially with the asian invasion of US turbo cars...... STI, WRX, EVO, MazdaSpeed5, and the mopar srt4. an old 240sx would get its ass handed to it by any of those cars, the evo and wrx's might even get a stock SR a run for the money Im sure the STI will lol... WRX 222hp vs s13/4 SR20 good match... WRX has a lil more hp and AWD launches but weighs more...

just get the celica and be done with it. it's faster, newer, doesn't need maintenance and is FREE.

why can't you see the light?

or you can tell them about my 240sx :iceslolan

$5000 out the door. and it's an auto, you don't have to learn stick. go here for more info:
http://members.cardomain.com/mynismo

the radio will be replaced with stock one and so will the tires. but it's a very fast car and would definately give that celica a run for it's money (hint, my 240 is faster  )

im in cleveland, oh. let me know if you're interested

If you compare torque you see the 240sx "smokes" the celica...Though the celica weighs less so basically it comes down to the driver I think as they both run a pretty close quarter. Also the celica he might get is auto and the 240sx will be manual...so I think the 240 would win.

celica gt
140 hp @ 6400 rpm
125 lb/ft torque @ 4200 rpm
2425 pounds

celica gt-s
180hp @ 7600 rpm
133 @ 6800 rpm
2500 pounds

240sx
155hp @ 5600 rpm
160 lb/ft toque @ 4400 rpm
2862 pounds

shit I thought there was only a 5hp difference...... I musta been in the GT-S then cause that thing hauled ass for a naturally aspirated 4 banger. To think of it it seems faster then my brothers Impala and he runs 14.5's... so it would seem reasonable a Celica GT-S could run low 15's or so stock..... they have a comparo test of some Celica's in a SCC...

2000 Gt-S 15.0

so a 240 would probably beat the the GT if that one only has 140hp, but I think the handling would be better on the Celica stock for stock. Its new and less beat on and worn out. It won't require as much maintenance just to get it back to stock level of performance like an old 240sx would.

heres a lighly modded GT base model

2002 White Celica Gt 5speed
1/4: 15.274@86.7mph (2.175 60 ft)
1/8: 9.755

Dude, heres my advice.

Get a Celica. Get some cheap Hotchkis suspension components. Go to a track. Learn to drive. Fast. Get a 240.

Its not glamourus and you cant be a super-mad dorifuto Takumi kid, but in the end, you will be faster than your friends and said wannabes.

(I cant sell the car once my parents buy it for me)

This is the only reason I say go for the 240. Yes I understand that its a brand new car versus a aging car that you must be wary of problems for, but the only problem I see is impatience. You prolly want the celica cuz its right there, in your face, FREE, and able to be had now, but I wouldn't settle for what you can get. Besides, that means youd be stuck with an automatic car youre not allowed to sell.

BTW, I've seen this race happen...Stock 95 240sx vs. stock 2000 Celica GT, the 240sx won. But I will say it was damn close.

As far as the learn how to drive fast then get a 240sx, he would be surprised on how different a RWD car is to handle than a FWD, kind of a wasted effort if you ask me

:iagree: I've driven a manual '01 or '02 (can't remember) Celica GT and my impression is that they're pretty slow, especially low end. My '97 240SX auto seems to pull alot harder to around 40mph. I also prefer the handling charactaristics of the 240 better, but that might be just because I'm used to RWD's. I love being able to swing my backend around and mashing the gas and going when I pull into traffic. Do that with a GT-s.

Take the celica... save up for the 240sx. This way you will have something to drive until you have your 240sx and it won't be costing you anything since your mom is paying for the celica. You'll have two cars so when you are working on one you can drive the other

HAVE THE CELICA AS A RELIABLE EVERYDAY DRIVER!

save for a 240sx as a track car or a saturday night special.

besides Toyota is number one in reliabilty. Lets be honest... you can't have some 300hp turbo monster and have it really be a daily driver. It might go on the street for a bit but will break shit a hell of a lot more...
if you have deep pockets or its a business' demo car its another story, but it doesn't seem like thats your case.

some people just don't know and can't afford what they are getting themselves into it. Take my advice as a son of someone who owns a mechanic shop and I've been around it my whole life. YOU NEED to have a daily driver, stock is best, something that is reliable and gets you to your money making job everyday. Then if you must have a 240sx, I would keep it as a toy almost. Im almost thinking of when I buy one just making it a trailer queen and using it on a track in SCCA events. AS you get older you won't want to drive balls to the wall on the street anyhow. You make think your good at it, and you could be.... but one day no matter how good you are you could cause some drastic tragedy and maybe kill some people... just remeber my words cause if you disagree one day you will say, hey that mofo WAS right! lol

im just breaking out the truth to you. a 240sx isn't cheap to haul ass in.

you know all those D1 drift cars costs atleast 100k to make, those Signal S15 and Drifter X cost about half a million to make they said....

I think we need to strees you cannot expect to be dori-dori D1 Signal drift king Paul walker as soon as you get a car.

The road to performance cars is littered with accidents, insurance, costly repairs, and mechanical pain-in-the-ass stuff.

Take the Celica, learn to drive properly, and fuck all the drifting/240 trend stuff.

When and if you get yours, you will be more experienced, and that will put you ahead of everyone else.
