Saab owners (Read CAR magazine August 2002) are actually proved to have higher education than of any other car owners! And if you have ever had a Saab, I doubt you would ever switch to another brand. Saab, I love you... <3

I looked at the 2004 9-3 linear, compare the options and quality to the Acura TSX and the Saab comes up short in all areas. Quality of materials inside the car suck. It really feels GM like.

I have to say that ur wrong about saab. In my opinion saabs should be the slow pos i always thought they were. But they arent. Me and my friends all have really nice cars. M3, Gs 400, S4, STi just to name a few. But one of our less fortunant friends had a SAAB. Kinda like the one pictured above. He had a chip and intake. Me and him raced. GS 400 which is a lexus V8 with 300 hp. And his saab almost beat me. But then he hit a bump and lost control and rolled his car and plowed into a couple trees. But the fact that little terd saab almost beat me was pretty amazing i was impressed. It changed my view on saab. So dont dis the saab untel u race against a chipped one :-p

I strongly disagree with you. Saab 9-3 has a very nice and ergonomic interior, which has nothing to do with GM at all. I've read many tests that choose the 9-3 over the A4 in terms of the interior because the A4 is a bit too boring. Everything works excellent, but it's just a bit plain. Quality and all is top notch on the A4, but the 9-3 has more personality.

Don't ever compare the Focus and 9-3! :)

I am disappointed to see the Swedish part of Saab slowly disappear as Saabs are turning into GM American car. I love Saabs, but the new 9-3 and the 9-2x are not at all any part Saab, I think the emblem is the same. They moved the window switches to the drivers door? Saab always had them in the center; I am still surprised that the ignition is in the center console. I hope it stays there. I think that the 9-5 Aero is the best car ever made. I love the interior and think that it is well worth the money, it handles beautifully. Saabs are the most understated cars. I love smoken a Mustang in a 9-5 Aero. Saabs have some of the best owner loyalty in the industry. I have grown up in Saabs and they are still my favorite cars. I hope Gm stops turning Saab American.

It looks now that the next generation of 9-5 will be rear wheel driven (and all wheel drive as an option), the new GM platform it will be based on is inspired by BMW with it's short overhang on the front.

There are more parts in the new 9-3 that are Saab specific that what one might think, which also caused the car to be more expensive that it initially was thought.

9-2 was built so they could introduce a new car, as they had promised to the US dealers. That car will not be sold in Europe, nor will 9-7, at least to the beginning.

I really love Saabs, the quality, the power, everything.

I just have one question. I own a '94 900 Turbo and it has a horrible turbo lag (kicks in at 2500 to 3000) and I was wondering if there was some unexpensive parts that I could buy to decrease the lag.

There are no inexpensive parts that can reduce lag, further more, what you are describing is "boost threshold", that the turbocharger can't give boost under a certain engine speed.

Your engine will likely produce maximum torque at around 2500 rpm since it's a 2.0 litre engine.

Wow, no center ignition? Thats almost not a SAAB. :nono: Why must they do things like that?

We had a 1999 9-3 turbo convertible. $43k. Thing was junk. Engine need to be replaced. Will never buy another SAAB again. Now that GM owns SAAB they have lost any "coolness" factor they once had. Market share should contine to decline.

Saab has not been a successful automaker lately. Gm does not want to spend anymore money on this company So the cheapest way to introduce new models without spending too much moeny is to take what GM already has and make some changes.

The 9-2 was initially made very fast because of that the company had promised a new car, which was actually going to be a 9-7 but the people from GM:s different brands could not agree on the platfrom of the car so that ended up with nothing. As a car was promised and GM didn't want to get sued by the dealer that have spent money on the introduction of a new car the 9-2 was made from a Subaru platform.
Both 9-2 and 9-7 will only be sold in north america, at least in the beginning. 9-2 have however been requested by european dealers. GM have also seen this as a risk but Subaru is also a brand with a history in the airplane business and which make cars that are a little different.

The 9-2 and 9-7 are also introduced to increase the number of cars sold, this is imortant as Saabs needs a stronger net of dealers and more models.

Saab have increased the number of cars sold, the problem is that the cars are more expensive to make than what they get from selling them. Each car cost them about $3000. One part of the problem is that Saabs cost are in swedish crowns are euros while 40% of the sales is in us dollars, which is for the moment very weak.
Another problem, which is likely a much larger one is that the devlopements cost per car sold is high, this because of the low volume sold (about 130,000 cars last year).

A new 9-5 is on the way, I think it's going to be introduced in 2008 or so. It will be based on a GM platform but is otherwise devloped by Saab.

The older Saab engines could handle almost anything, for example the inline four was used with a stock bottom for outputs over 600 hp.
The newer engines (generation 4, found in 9-5 and newer og9-3) have weaker parts due to weight savings and for decreased friction have had some problem with for example the pistons but this is very rare. There was also some problems with the early GT17 turbochargers.
The DI cassette tends to fail but this is quite easy and not that expensive to fix.

I'm sorry to post a negative comment about Saab in this thread, but I must. I bought my Saab because I thought it was a high quality car that was right for me for many, many reasons - the swiss army knife of cars. It can do everything - front wheel drive and traction control for our snow, sport mode, great performance turbo, nice appointments, and one fantastic convertible top. Handles like a dream and has every safety feature in the book. However, my engine just blew up at 34,000 miles!! No good reason - it's been properly maintained, did every scheduled maintainenance, oil change every 3K, and use 91 octane fuel. Car is only 3 months past end of warranty and Saab USA refuses to pay. That is my gripe! I think it's because GM owns Saab. Any other thoughts? Also - anyone have any ideas on how to appeal Saab USA Customer Service decisions? Anywhere else to go to fight this?? By the way, I'm an educated (2 masters degrees) Republican, and no bleeding heart!

My mates got a 7 year old 2ltr 900 s convertable and its bloody fast for a non-turbo, he gets it from 30-100 in like 13 seconds or less, and he hasn't even had one problem with it!

Anyone have experience with a Saab (03) in which the abs, tcs, brake warning lights come on and abs function lost. Pull off road and shut off car and lights usually go out and car fine. Dealer can't seem to fix. Any similar experiences or ideas? Thx.

Why do you think GM bought SAAB in the first place? SAAB was about to die out until GM bought it and brought it back to life with the 900 and 9000.

I really do not know what all the fuss is about on the new SAABS. They look great to me and I see hardly no GM related looks on them. They look as European as it gets such as the 9-3 and 9-5.
