I really want to get a '97, considering they have 10 more hp/torque than the 96, among other differences. Only problem is, they are much rarer than the slightly slower 95s and 96s. I'm wondering, is it worth it for me to wait and try to find a slightly faster/newer 97, or should i just go for a 95 or 96?

Is the 97 revision much better than the previous sc400s?

dunno what the other differences there are, but who cares man. if u got a 96 and u raced a guy with a 97 with 10 more hp/tq in the end the winner would still be the better driver. if he had a 20-30hp/tq advantage on ya then different story...
