After have long since been retired, the S2000 is back on my desk. This was actually the first car kit I bought in my current modeling infatuation; I got it over two years ago.

I had already gotten about halfway through it, when the windshield mysteriously disappeared. So it got crammed into its box, and shoved under the desk. And I changed my sig to say "I can't find the windshield." :(

Those dark days ended when the mighty Guiddy took pity on me and my plight (and just happened to have a spare windshield), and sent me a new windshield!!!

Moral of the story: Guiddy = :coolguy:

So I dug it back out, and I overlooked my progress so far. The chassis is complete. It looks fairly good, too. Some stuff is brush painted, but it's okay.

The exhaust looks like crap. It's a custom mixed brass-y color, which I must have mixed poorly. It will be redone.

The interior was started. The bottom of the bucket was painted red for the carpet, and it looks fine. The seats look terrible. I didn't use a primer way back then, so I had to put a zillion coats of red to cover the black, and it was way too glumpy, and it wasn't even red enough yet. The door panels were masked and painted well, but again, there weren't enough coats to completely cover the black with the red trim.

The body was painted the wrong color outright.

So, the body, exhaust, seats and door panels are all soaking in a pickle jar full of Castrol Super Clean so that all the paint will be removed. Should be ready to start priming and painting next tuesday or so. :D

So that's where it stands. You all know you will be updated regularly. :)

Breathe fire back into that old flame. ;)

Talk about progress, huh? Seems like the Artist Formerly Known as Silver S2000 has come a long way since the S2000 sans windshield. Knowledge is power.

What are you going to use foe the Silverstone metallic?

I'm going to use the mixture called out in the instructions. Did you tweak yours at all?

Also, what did you think of the "H" decals for the wheel centercaps? I did one yesterday, and it looks kinda sloppy. :(

And did you notice they give you two backwardss wheels? They're the directional 6-spoke wheels, so you should have 2 left and 2 right, but they're all the same. I wonder if they'll fix that for the Type V...

I'm going to call Tamiya and ask for another set of the window masks, as well as the metal emblems again. :D

Guiddy

I thought most cars had to put up with directional wheels looking odd on one side?
Never seen an S2000 with those wheels anyway, so I couldn't comment!
The window mask I could help you with, the photetch I couldn't!:D

I am fine with the H emblems! What's the alternative?

Fresh from the pickle-jar bath in CSC, the body, seats, mirrors, door panels, tonneau cover and exhaust parts are all on my desk, completely free of paint. Ready for round 2. :flash:

Something Dan did, but didn't seem to mention, is sand of the box behind the side markers where the S2000 logo goes. This box appeared on the pre-production model, but isn't on the real thing. So, off it comes!

An odd thing on mine though... Since the body is molded in "silver" plastic, the "grain" of the plastic is different at this vestigal box feature. After the boxes were sanded off, the plastic still looked like they were there. It's the weirdest thing, and it's hard to explain, but look for it if you ever build one. It's neat.

I should get to priming the body by Tuesday or so. :) It's fun when stuff gets done! :coolguy:

Are you talking about the convertible top when you say tonneau cover? So the CSC will strip clear parts with out screwing up clear parts? I need to strip my RX-7 windows for repainting and I obviously don't want to screw them up. :D

Jay!

I have not used it on clear parts yet. The tonneau cover is the thing that covers the folded roof in the down position.

I have some old clear tree that's been painted on. I could try it out for you, if you like...

CSC Report: after 12 hours, the clear plastic seems completely fine! That's more than enough time to remove acrylic paint.

S2000 Report: Body is semi-primed, more coats later. I'm going to pick up my dad's camera again, and stopping my the hobby store. I think they finally moved into their new building! :D  So I just want to check it out.

I now have a silver S2000 again (but in parts.) I'm really impressed with the shade of silver the Tamiya mix produces (X10:1+X11:2). Looks really good, and it's over the gray primer, just to keep it characteristically dark. :)

Next is finishing the interior. The seats and doors have been primed, and have a first coat of semi-gloss red, but need another for good coverage. They turing out nice and leathery, just like Guiddy's. :)

Progress reports will follow. :D

Wow. Stripping the S2000 is taking way longer than the NSX did. I wonder if it's because I used the grey primer instead of the white... Well, today I took it out and scrubbed it a bit, but it wasn't ready, so back in the jar it went...

In the meantime, I finished painting all the interior parts. Now ready for assembly! :D The seats and door panels came out really well; I'm very pleased.

Next is re-doing the exhaust. I've decided to paint the mufflers flat black, since they were black on both of the S2000s i've managed to get underneath... ;)

A few more. I snaped this, and the new NSX shots, when my friend broght his digicam by a few days ago, but he didn't have the cord, so he emailed them to me today. He'll let me borrow it again later, when I'll have more time to find a better background. :) Makes me want to hurry on the S2000. ;)

Jay!
02-06-2002, 09:07 PM
The CSC is actually having trouble stripping the body. I guess I'll have to sand of the last bit that I can't seem to scrub off.

Oh, well. I wonder why it was different this time...

Guiddy
02-06-2002, 09:31 PM
It all depends on the brand of primer too!
I had to scrub my R34 when I soaked it in brake fluid!

Looking forward to seeing this one done Jay! We might not pick on you so much when you complete it!;)
Don't forget to spray the section above the exhausts black on the rear bumper too, the instructions omit it!

I say you keep your mates digi cam too! He can't need it as much as you do!

Hey Jay, long time no post, nice interior and I like your colour for the carpet, looks real. However, forgive me, I think the seats are a bit too shiny.

I am working on a Golf V5. Hope I can finish it soon and post some pic here.

For anyone who's still interested in my world's longest S2000 build, (:() here are pictures of the body stripped for the second time. You can see what I meant about the primer not coming all the way off.

Since these pics were taken, I've washed the body multiple times to try and get rid of any CSC that may have been lurking in the paint, and it has most of a layer of primer again...

I actually made progress on it today! :D I painted the taillights, windshield frame, and 'thing between the mufflers' all black. I also stole the windshiled mask from my Type V kit to use on Dan's windshield and it is now painted, too, minus the side windows, as planned.

The body is already polished, the headlight assemblies and front grille went in today. The front end looks great!

Things left to do include:
Detailing the taillights: foil in lightbacks, red on the corners. The round lenses are already sprayed clear red. :)
The trunk lid. It was cut off because it was a trouble spot during polishing. It was stripped and repainted. When I'm satisfied that the colors match, it will be temporarily reattached for now. A hinge will be added later, when I have something interesting to put in the trunk. ;) The third brake light is already attached to the trunk lid. The 'nub' on the lid that the clear part sits on was foiled, and the rest of the backside of the clear part was colored black, and I'm really happy with the effect. :)
The exhaust need to be repainted. I'll have flat black mufflers because that's what I've seen on all 1:1 S2Ks, but the cat and pipes will be gold-ish and chrome-ish, respectively
Afix metal transfers, antenna and mirrors.
Decide what to do about a license plate... ;)
I'll get pics soon... :D

edit: thanks again, Dan... :coolguy:
