OK, well whoever told you the 8 is 'detuned' is talking thru thier arse; it develops a little more power than the Evo 7 it replaced, while also having improvements to the chassis, traction control systems, etc to improve an already awesome ride.

The reason most people dislike the 8 and to a lesser extent the 7 is the fact that the styling has gone soft. Just take a look at some shots of a 5 or 6 [or have a nose round the real thing if you get chance !] and you'll soon realise the whole aggression of the car has gone completely.

About that 'detuning' again; Mitsubishi also offer a tuned-up version of the 8 called the FQ 300 which comes with around 310Bhp and some additionally lightened components. Maybe this is what makes people think the standard 8 is detuned, but the output for the standard cars has been around 280Bhp and it's this more powerful upgrade that is new, rather than lowering the power of the standard model [whoever heard of a performance car being replaced with an updated, less powerful version anyway ?]

I like the 5 and 6 better because they look good and are smaller and lighter.

well not the us verison. I dunno if this is true.. but i heard da evo8 is pretty much exactly the same as the 7's. WEll of course becasue of emissions and such. Us's evo is detuned rite??. i know they took out the ayc in it.

but hey i still like the 8, i drove past one the other day and it looks nice to me... still i prefer the 5's and 6's cuz of thier agressive looks and they fit more to my style

i thought the evo 8 amercan spec was different from the japan spec evo 8 i know the evo 8 japan spec comes with a 6 forward speed gear box and ayc " been in singapore and drove it".
The evo 8 us spec, does it come with the same 6 forward gears and ayc
i was told they dont have these, plus the evo 8 us spec has a 80 kg reinfoced crash bar infront, the evo 8 us spec is lower than 280 hp and has 5 forward gears, i believe the dealer told me 270.

i am not sure.

but i know the japan spec evo 8 is 6 speed and 280 hp with ayc,

Yeah; Maybe the US spec is slower than the rest of the world's, but compared to the earlier models they're still jsut as powerful [Trust me to misunderstand the question !] And Ive also heard from various sources that the USDM Evo does have a 5-speed 'box - altho those same people also say it's jstu as quick since the box is geared to take account of the 'loss' of a gear :icon16:

The US evo8 drivetrain is basically an RS evo7 but with GSR ratio's.
It uses the same gearbox as 7, and thats not a bad thing as the 5 speed is a pretty tough gearbox.

I like the EVO 5 & Tommi Makinens the best, they just look much more aggressively styled then the 7 & 8. The 6 also looks good but I don't particulary like the styling of the front spoiler, it just looks :gay: to me.

I think you will find mostly that the Americans will tend to like the looks of the 7 & 8 more because thats the ones they are getting.

I live in Australia and when the 8 comes out here I think alot of the people here will start to like the looks of the 8 more and more but for me, I will never like the looks of the 7 or 8 (cedia), though i think the 7 looks better then the 8 (I prefer the split bonnet scoop over the EVO 4 single style scoop).
