Going to College? Got a nice car? Tip of the day...Ricochet 07-18-2003, 04:05 PM Tired of having some ugly college parking sticker on your slick ride? Try this... If the sticker is already on your car, peel it off and get a new one. My school will exchange for a new one, free, as long as you have pieces leftover from the old one. Buy a large magnet and cut it accordingly to the size of the sticker and put them together. After pulling up in the lot, slap it on the rear (where there's metal obviously), then take it off when you leave. Viola, hot ride again with no eyesore. Just make sure it's not a huge noticable magnet where somebody can steal it, a refridgerator one or something should work. Mrock 07-18-2003, 07:25 PM Nice one! I'll have to remember that...very good tip.. SilverY2KCivic 07-18-2003, 07:43 PM I'm glad my school uses permits you hang off your rear mirror in your car. ;) Mrock 07-31-2003, 12:54 PM I was enrolling at my new school, and they say "and your parking sticker...", I thought "I know just how to fix that", go figure. I guess I'll be using your tip!.... Ricochet 07-31-2003, 01:33 PM I couldn't find any "sheets" of magnet anywhere, just little taperoll-like strips, so I lined up and taped a few rows together... It works just fine, so fuggit :) 00accord44 07-31-2003, 01:45 PM You mean slap it on the outside of your car? I know at my school, parking permits are a hot commodity cuz nobody really buys em like there supposed to:rolleyes: If other students dont find it, then parking enforcement never will (they're sooo stupid) But good idea for less theif-infested parking lots though. my school uses the hanging things. Ricochet 07-31-2003, 02:35 PM I go to Devry, a small tech school about the size of a grocery store or something, so it isn't that bad. Mrock 07-31-2003, 05:58 PM My old school used the hanging tags, which was nice...but here, it's the decals. I'm assuming there's a chance it will get stolen, so now the task is to find a way to keep it somewhat safe. Maybe if I found a way to put it on the inside, but still be in visible sight. Supposedly (I'm new to the school), if you don't have a parking decal, you can get a $150 fine..or $20 booting fee... 00accord44 07-31-2003, 06:04 PM The trick at my school is to never register your car. With the school that is. The parking enforcement on campus and the city dept of motor vehicles etc have nothing to do with each other. So as long as the school can never trace your tickets/license plate back to your name, you never have to pay.:bigthumb: The only thing is in certain areas, they tow like its 1999, so you gotta learn the system first. Parker beware. SilverY2KCivic 08-01-2003, 09:06 PM A car has to be registered to somebody, otherwise you can't claim it if it gets towed, I'm not getting what you are saying. :bloated: At my school you don't register jack with the school, all you do is buy the permit (whether a daily one or the semester one) and if you don't have one, they record your plate number, AND/OR your VIN number, all that will ALWAYS trace back to the DMV. What a friend of mine did was she was parked without a permit just after she bought a new car. Well she didn't have plates yet of course, and she had some paper over the VIN plate in her windshield so the moron cadet officer that gave her a ticket, basicallyt wasted his time since he didn't have any traceable info on her car it she were to not pay the ticket, which of course she didn't pay. :D TheNotoriousMogg 08-01-2003, 09:46 PM to get on base we have 3 fuckin stickers on our windshield...its gay but better than a body sticker Mrock 08-02-2003, 11:22 AM 3? Wow.. My car is going through a lot of changes lately, and I DON'T want to have some stupid decal on my car. I'll probably put it on my windshield- if for some reason I can't do the magnet thing. (I haven't even seen the parking permits yet...). 94tegRS 08-02-2003, 08:33 PM I know what hes talking about, at my high school you had to pay 15 bucks for a permit to park and you have to give them your license number, and plate number and description of car and they store it on file and you get a numbered tag to hang from the rear view. 00accord44 08-04-2003, 09:56 AM Originally posted by SilverY2KCivic A car has to be registered to somebody, otherwise you can't claim it if it gets towed, I'm not getting what you are saying. :bloated: I mean whenever you decide to bring a car on campus (youre not allowed to do so Freshman year:rolleyes: ) youre supposed to take it to our parking enforcement office and give them your plate # , descrip of vehicle, name, and SSN so they can trace any tickets on your plate # back to your SSN/ Student ID# so they can charge the tickets to your student account. If you don't pay the tickets, you don't graduate. The one thing my school (Florida A&M Univ) is good at is making sure you have paid EVERY PENNY before they let you get a degree. But as long as you never give them your plate # etc, they can't trace it back to your name/student account.:bigthumb: And on-campus parking enforcement doesn't report/communicate with city/REAL enforcement so you're license wont be suspended or anything for unpaid citations:bigthumb: :bigthumb: As for the towing, with the company my school uses, you just go to the lot, give them your plate# and descrip, pay, sign, and youre outta there. Jetts 09-06-2003, 03:23 AM i had to pay 40 bucks for a year to park in the parking lot, you either put it on the windsheild or get it lamenated and hang it from your rearveiw mirror Yea i just stuck it on my windshield cause i dont give a shit vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
