Cold air intake???

I have a '95 blazer with a 4.3L v6 vortec engine. I'm wanting to put a K&N cold air intake in it. Will there be any problems with the mass airflow sensor? I'm told that it senses the density of the air going through the intake system and after i put the intake system in the air will be denser due to the air being cooler and that it will mess with the mass air flow senser? Is this true or does the K&N cold air intake kit come with provisions to still be able to use the stock mass air flow sensor without tripping any codes?

Another ? is that i was thinking of replacing the mass air flow sensor with one off of stylin concepts.com to go with the new K&N cold air intake system. Will there be any problems with that?

I also hear that I'm gonna have to get some kind of chip burned for my computer after i put a cold air intake system in my truck.

A better question to ask is that right now my blazer is stock. its 4x4, 4 door. I'm looking to add some performance without causing any problems to my driveline or defeating the purpose of having 4x4. Any thoughts and ideas? Money isn't an issue, though i do have a limited budget to work with. I don't wanna do anything drastic, like engine swaps or anything as of yet. I know my engine has about 104,000 miles on it and it still runs like new. with this many miles on it, i want to stay N/A. untill im able to afford a new engine. even after a new engine, i still want to get as much power as possible without defeating the purpose of 4 wheel drive, or is this possible?

as long as u dont screw with the drive train...you shouldn't have to worry about the 4x4...we're in the same boat (except i dont have a 4x4, i have an LT, and i have 114,000 miles) but I dont have a mass air folw sensor on mine...wut model eng. do you have? (wut is in the 8th place of your VIN #?)...Please Please let me know about having that chip burned (i've personally never hurd about it...but I am very very interested)...

I wish i could help you with that information with the vin number. i really dont even know right off had if i have a mass airflow senser either. im in the military and is currently deployed overseas. I plan on doing all kinds of crap to my truck when i get home as I can afford it. I just figured that I'd do me up some reading on other peoples problems and things they've done with their trucks. I can see if I can get my wife to check my VIN number and email it to me and let you know that way.

thats cool...i have the actual GM service books for the 1995 S-Series Trucks and it dosen't mention ne thing about a MAF sensor, but who knows you might have a special version...there was something else you said that sparked some curiosity...which leads me to believe that maybe someone has done some modifications in the past...ne who...lets say a stock 4.3L has 180hp (it somewhere b/t 180-190..it varies form source...)...
Please keep in mind that the adds here are UP TO...
Fuel Injection Col Air Performance Kit= +26hp = 206 = 220$ - SC
Venom Performance Control Module = +25% = 257.5 = 300$ - SC
New Ignition Syst. and Coil = +10hp = 267.5 = 220$ - SC
Chip = +15hp = 282.5 = 100$ -TP
Power Underdrive Pullys = +15hp = 297.5 = 130$ - TP

TP = TruckPerformance.com
SC = StylinConcepts.com

So in reality you're prolly looking at like 250hp or 260 if the engines have 190 hp stock..and if you have a W series..it is believed that they have 10 hp over the z series for some reason...so 270 hp if you have the w series...but you can always tell ur friends that you have 300+...lol...in a dream wold you would have somewhere of 330hp...and alll this keeps the 4x4...and is about 1000 dollars...this is wut i plan on doing for now...good luck

Please allow me to add that I am NO expert...i just listen to every one wether a newbie or expert...i take in all that is said...engiones facinate my...the way they work...and the Genius that it took to creat it...im just 17...but i have lots of experience working with my dad and his friends and my friends and i try to help out where i can...just a safe guard against ne kind of bad stuff happening in the future...not that im expecting ne..just in case though

I've also heard that there are bolt on blower kits that will add a good 200 maybe 300 pluss HP. I think i staded before though that I'm trying to stay N/A for the rest of my engine's life. As soon as I have to replace my engine, i will probably then go all out.

that is besides what i was gonna ask though. What is the difference between a '95 LS and LT. I have the LS. If there isn't a MAF sensor then I shouldn't have any kind of problems with any kind of air intake system i put in the truck and therefore shouldn't have to do any kind of chipping concerning the air intake system. The only kind of chip i would need is the performance chip. I'm still gonna have my wife send me the vin number to my truck so you can check up on that. It sounds like your in a better position to do that kind of research that I am considering I'm stuck in the middle of the desert on the other side of the planet.

DJ, what is your personal email addy? I'd like to be able to talk with you on a more personal basis if that's cool with you.

again. thanx for the help

the part no. are...
StylinConcepts.com
K&N Kit - 573009
Venom Module - V45173
Ignition - 340004 & 341000

There are no model No.s for the stuff off TruckPerformance.com...but their database is easy to use

I have the JET chip the adjustabe one, and a newer CAI, does anyone know if you can hook up the intake to the Ram Air on the hood I have a large Ram Air Hood but it's sealed and doesn't serve any pourpose other that looking nice. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?s=&postid=1086009

the only way I know if you could make the hood functional would be to do alot of custom fabrication...take a large size PVC "Y" attach it to your throttle body...Add filters to the Y...take measurements....cut out the section of you hood (inside the nostrils) so part of your filters can come through...that should work...no sure of ne other mods necessary for sensors (if you have ne...i dont) to work

I went onto Ebay and fund a kit that makes the hood functional but whhooolllleeeyyy CRAP!!!!!!!1 It's a total bitch not worth it, and if I haden't already drilled the holes for it I wou;d have scraped the project from day one.

dj, about your plans for making the hood functional, wouldn't hooking it straight up to your air filter allow water right into the engine?

I just bought this cold air intake on eBay based on a previous post on cold air intakes. Cold Air Intake (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7961177237&category=38634)

I'm now having second thoughts based on what i've been reading online and in other posts. Is there a huge difference between this cold air intake I have linked in this post and the K&N FIPK GEN2. I know this one I bought online has a generic filter which worries me (will that be an issue?) Also, will there be any performance difference??
