Recommendations on a 97 LE?enecks 07-10-2003, 10:54 PM Hey everybody, I've found a 97 240SX LE 5spd which you can view here (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=135651470&dealer_id=27532870&car_year=1997&search_type=used&make=NISSAN&model=240SX&transmission=MAN&distance=25&address=75035&advanced=y&certified=n&max_mileage=&max_price=&min_price=&end_year=2004&start_year=1983&drive=&engine=&body_style=&advcd_on=y&doors=&fuel=&color=&cardist=21). I went and drove it tonight, and it feels pretty solid. I'm just wondering what you guys think a fair price would be? The Autotrader ad says they want $9995, but their window sticker was $10,225. Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Also, can you point out any problem areas I should look out for? I've owned an Infiniti M30 before, but when it comes to 240s, I'm pretty green. I appreciate any input. -Justin ghostchild316 07-10-2003, 10:57 PM Oo0oo das pretty I want those rims... mynismo 07-10-2003, 11:04 PM offer them 8500 DIRTYDAWGS 07-10-2003, 11:07 PM E-MAIL THEM ABOUT THE PRICE?:bigthumb: J SPEC SilEighty 07-10-2003, 11:16 PM  wow, that is nice! Yeah definately try and talk them down some but if they don't go any then $9995 is still a pretty good price for a 97 LE. Also the car is stick, which makes it even more rare. About 65-70% of the 97-98's were auto so it is pretty hard to find one with a manual tranny. Beautiful car... I say go for it :bigthumb: mynismo 07-10-2003, 11:23 PM just to let you know.. here's a 97 with tinted windows and 25000 mi http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6396&item=2423341481 starting at 4500 dayna240sx 07-10-2003, 11:39 PM For $10,000 I will sell you my car. 10,000 less miles than that, and all my mods and original parts. Plus leather. (do le's have leather?) enecks 07-10-2003, 11:53 PM Dayna: I have no idea if LEs have leather, but this one was cloth. And thanks for the offer, but I really prefer the 97-98 bodystyle. The 95-96 front end just doesn't appeal to me. I think it must be the roundess or some such... J Spec Sileighty: Yeah, the manual seems to be rather rare. I searched autotrader.com for a manual 97-98 240 and this was the only one within 300 miles! The salesman said a lot of people had come to look at it, but only one so far seemed serious. I'm going to call back tomorrow to see whether or not that guy bought it. If it's still available, I might just have to throw them an offer :P. enecks 07-11-2003, 02:51 PM Crap. The other guy bought it this morning. Guess I'll have to keep looking : /. enecks 07-12-2003, 02:21 AM Well, I don't know if this is an omen or what, but I found another green 240 almost identical to the one I missed out on, which you can view here (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=136263901&dealer_id=73224&car_year=1998&search_type=used&make=NISSAN&model=240SX&transmission=MAN&distance=50&address=75035&advanced=y&certified=n&max_mileage=&max_price=&min_price=&end_year=1998&start_year=1997&drive=&engine=&body_style=&advcd_on=y&doors=&fuel=&color=&cardist=42). I'm going to call about it in the morning. Not crazy about those wheels, but it's got fewer miles and it's a 98...so, it's worth a shot, eh? Dorikin 07-13-2003, 04:26 PM Dude, those are the JDM Kouki 180SX wheels. Sell em on ebay! I'm going to call about it in the morning. Not crazy about those wheels, but it's got fewer miles and it's a 98...so, it's worth a shot, eh? those wheels came stock on all '98s AFAIK. i'm pretty sure they are the exact same wheels as from the Kouki 180SX...but not 100% sure. even so, '98s are rare, so go for it and you could probably get some money for the wheels. enecks 07-13-2003, 04:46 PM Well, the price was right, but the overall impression wasn't. I went and drove the car, and it just didn't feel right; I didn't feel completely at ease driving it. Plus, I can get at least $2-3k more selling the Land Rover privately than trading it in...so, I decided to wait. I'm sure somebody else will be able to enjoy those Kouki wheels, whatever that means :). Dorikin 07-13-2003, 05:44 PM Kouki=late model academicpanda 07-14-2003, 07:53 PM '98 LE comes standard with leather and cd, but you have to watch out. i'm looking for a 97-98 and maybe 50% of the autotrader ads out there say "240SX LE" but don't have the standard options on an LE, most are actually SEs but apparenly half the ppl are morons cause i know they didn't make that many LEs (certainly not 50% of all 97-98s). <-- end spiel about how many autotrader sellers are morons --> ThaLegend 07-15-2003, 12:57 AM If you have cash you should be able to lower the price way lower than what they are asking for... academicpanda 07-15-2003, 01:04 AM keep in mind that if you're buying from a dealer: A) you have to pay taxes and B) they're asking price is probably 20-30% more than what they got it for, but they still have to make a profit so a good ballpark figure would be offer 10-20% less than what a dealer lists it at depending on how fairly priced you think it is to begin with dayna240sx 07-15-2003, 09:04 AM You have to pay taxes even if you dont buy it from a dealership academicpanda 07-15-2003, 01:48 PM pretty sure you don't have to pay sales tax if you buy from a private owner, correct me if i'm wrong dayna240sx 07-15-2003, 06:07 PM Originally posted by academicpanda pretty sure you don't have to pay sales tax if you buy from a private owner, correct me if i'm wrong yes you pay tax on a car everytime you buy on eeither from a private seller or a dealer... no matter how many times the car has been bought or sold in the past... Atleast that is the way it is in Indiana,.... If other states are not like that.. I guess it is worth it for not having emmissions requirements  enecks 07-15-2003, 06:20 PM I don't recall paying any NC sales tax when I purchased my M30 from a private seller. Also, if you look on eBay, most of the dealers say, "XX buyers must pay Y% sales tax," where XX is the state in which the dealer is located and Y is the amount of the state/county sales; that is to say, buyers outside the state aren't require to pay sales tax. This is not to say you won't have to pay taxes at all on the car, just not sales tax. Please note that I'm not a CPA nor a tax attorney, so what I'm saying is based solely on my own experiences. academicpanda 07-15-2003, 08:55 PM it is my understanding that you pay some sort of taxes, but not sales tax.. only companies must pay sales tax on what they sell (thus passing the taxes on to you), but again i could be wrong, but this would be a good thing to know, anyone know anything about the subject? i always considered buying from a private owner a better option because of less taxes and such involved... hopefully i'm not just stupid, though it's highly possible vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
