Schlud just gave me an idea. If any of you guys burn out an alternator, I would like to acquire one to measure for potential replacement. I don't feel like yanking mine out to measure it for adaptation to a better alternator and damn sure ain't paying Nissan's prices for a guinea pig. This gave me the thought that if I could acquire one that has been obliterated beyond use but still has the housing intact so I can measure mounting points, I could fabricate an adapter bracket to install a bigger (and possibly cheaper) alternator. We'll see about the alternator this week. Mine's kicking up and decides to run when it wants. I'll let you know.

I just fried my alternator. However, under warranty Nissan won't give you the old alternator when replacing it with a new one. They ship them back to the factory, rebuild them, and install them in somebody elses truck.
