EscortHeep 03-23-2001, 08:47 AM Who else here has an Escort? Heep 04-21-2001, 03:36 PM Thanks for the Escort links...do you have any idea how much power yours had? I think I'll save the Cossie wing until I get the car a bit faster. What was the install like for the Jap. engine and how much did it cost? If it's easy, I can install it myself without labor costs. Rod Millen offers a 220 (?) hp, 245 lb-ft turbo conversion for the EGT engine plus wheels, suspension, bodykit for $11K, I have the car in an article in Road & Track Feb. '91. BTW...I guess I didn't see your Escort, just another heavily modded one with a Mazda engine. RoadRover 04-24-2001, 01:05 AM 220 hp 'scort? 245ft-lbs? *runs out to buy another Escort* I never had the 'Scort dyno'd, but I would say that It had somewhere around 200hp. I can't put a figure on the torque tho. I got the WHOLE J-spec engine and tranny for about $4000 INSTALLED. I had the hook-up through a friend. If you have a scanner, I'd like to see the article with the Rod Millen 'Scort. Maybe I can come up with something based on that... Leaving the wing for the time being is a good idea. No-one likes cars that are all 'show' and no 'go'. Tune the engine up as much as possible, then do something about the looks, thats my advice. Heep 04-24-2001, 03:06 PM Yeah, I have a scanner...I'll hook it up and scan the article just a wee bit later. The article also talks about a 220hp 200lb-ft, mid-engined, rear drive, two seater Festiva with a SHO V-6. The Escort is just Turbo 1.8, intercooled, larger radiator, deep dish pistons (lowering compression to cope with the increased boost), Rod Millen computer, and free flow exhaust. They say 0-60 in 6.2, I think that's a little conservative. But that is about the same as an M3. :D I already have a 1.8 tranny in my 1.9 :D, it's from a GT. Is the J-spec one really different? Corksport sells a 210 hp version of the enigne for about $1875 US without shipping (from their place, not Japan). RoadRover 04-24-2001, 11:26 PM Sounds like the rod millen escort was about the same as mine, probably a bit faster though. You have the GT tranny, huh? I wasn't aware there was much of a difference between it and the LX tranny. Originaly I had the auto-mistake tranny in mine, but I wanted a 5-speed, thats why I had the tranny swapped in with the engine. I'd imagine that maybe the j-spec one had a better clutch. It was pretty stiff. I didn't know corksport sold the j-spec engine. That might be worth a look if I ever get another Escort. Heep 04-25-2001, 05:26 PM The actual ratios for each gear are nearly the same (minor differences), but the final drive is a fair bit different. I can go a bit faster in each gear. I need to get a tach though, I'm going to go to the junkyard and find an insturment cluster with the tach in it. RoadRover 04-25-2001, 08:10 PM Why don't you just get an aftermarket tach that mounts on the bottom of the A pillar? It would be a lot easier than reconfiguring the instrument panel. Heep 04-25-2001, 08:30 PM More expensive :D I like the "could have come from the factory" look too, and the tached cluster has a higher registering speedo. Plus, my car's already all wired up for a tached cluster, it's just a matter of switchin' them. The odometer'd be off, though... RoadRover 04-26-2001, 07:45 PM well, that would be the better idea then. Go for it, I say. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
