could someone explain, or lead me to a web page where i can find, what a flat engine means. is the only difference between a flat engine and a boxer engine the # of pistons?
and what is an H6?(mostly subaru)

Flat and Boxer engines are the same concepts. Different names for the samething. Try out horizontally opposed as another name for that layout. Think of rotary and wankel for the Mazda RX-8 and 7 engines.
H6? You lost me there.

so what's the difference in how the pistons fire? do they fire away from eachother?
is that why they're referred to as horizontally opposed?
