Are supper beetles good Drfthis 06-19-2003, 03:08 PM
I was wondering if super beetles are good for street setups, for moutian roads. If they arn't then what would be a good year to setup if possible. I would perfer a year w/irs suspension. thanx. 2strokebloke 06-19-2003, 06:20 PM Well, supper beetles taste horrible - but suPer beetles are well - super. Like most older MacPherson strut cars, they tend to shimmy - thoug this can be done away with by using a strut tower brace. They handle reasonably good - though personally I like the torsion bars better, of course if you're ever planning on carrying anything in the trunk, the super beetles actually have one (the torsion bar beetles only have a pretend trunk) Drfthis 06-25-2003, 09:09 AM thats cool. what would you say about setting up one for drifting 2strokebloke 06-25-2003, 07:07 PM I don't know how you could "set one up" I guess you'd just go out and drive one - they're pretty easy to provoke into fits of oversteering. Drfthis 06-26-2003, 09:47 AM What I mean when I say setting one up is giving them better suspension componets so that the car will handle better . Well thanx for all your time 2strokebloke. 2strokebloke 06-26-2003, 12:15 PM O.K. well like I wrote earlier, getting a strut tower brace is a good idea since the super beetles suffer from front end shaking, and I believe that you can also get shorter stiffer springs to lower the front end. The rear end uses torsion bars, you don't have to buy anything to lower them - get a VW expert who know how to do it to set the height on the rear. Drfthis 06-27-2003, 02:15 PM cool, now all I need to do is get one which shouldent take too long. Thanx again . SilverCloudR/T 07-02-2003, 01:57 PM I have a '72 super and it is very nice. Supers handle better than any other beetle, but they are not good for off-road. Springs and struts are very availlible for the fronts as well as strut braces. Anti-roll bars are avail. for front and rear. To lower and stiffen the rear, just re-set the tortion bars and get high-perf. shocks. I also have 17x7.5 Porsche 911 wheels on mine which also improves the handling. EricinRB 07-25-2003, 05:31 PM But I'll always be a little biased in my opinion. Eric Plum Bug Roberts Drfthis 07-28-2003, 11:04 PM Verry verry nice, I found a kit made from Topline Suspension and it enables you to put porsch wells on the supers. so the kit is like kick ass. :bigthumb: rae_sevilla 11-24-2003, 12:17 PM Super beetle is a good street and moutain curver I tried it,grips well, and you can even make it slide a little, all you need is a harder spring and a strut bar in front,at the back a sway bar is perfect to reduce the body roll, lower the car and install wider wheels and tires it does'nt have to be big,15 will do specially with stock engines, but still on down hills with curves you can easilly tail gate a FR car even with higher hp,remember to condition all your bushings for a greater response and stiffness, hope I could join you but unfortunately im from the Philippines but I love driving the mountain passes here like Antipolo,Real Quezon and Tanay.
