Zdreamer 12-13-2000, 05:24 PM I feel for ya dude, I had to drive 150+ miles to find mine, an excellent bargain I got on it to! What did you have to settle for instead of a 240? -andrew carman 12-13-2000, 05:33 PM mazda 929 :( well, i like it though. andrew 12-13-2000, 10:42 PM oh, cool! I actually like mazda 929s...especially the later ones, they have the only cool jelly bean shape that I like in a newer car;) I seriously thought about buying one, but could not find a five speed...I know they have a v-6, isn't it 18 valve also? Jack Handey 12-18-2000, 01:23 AM hmmm...methinks andrew=zdreamer http://www.ukcollectibles.co.uk/Images/princesstina1972.jpg ---------- Floss: It just makes sense. igor@af 12-18-2000, 09:34 AM :D Jack, you thought right!!!!!! See, Andrew first became a member at the board as "Zdreamer". Then he e-mailed me and said that he would like to be a mod for Datsuns. So, I gave him a new username which ends with "@AF", which the public can't have! :D . So, now he uses andrew@af. It's just that he became the mod on the 13th. That's why those 2 posts were made on the same day. :) Cleared it up? by the way, Welcome Andrew! Edited by: igor@af driveitloveit 04-06-2001, 09:45 AM I have a 73 240Z sweet ride!! but i live near the ocean and it's about rusted out, drive train is great. looking to sell it, I don't do body work but i'm not sure what it is really worth any help with price, or any interst in buying? igor@af 04-06-2001, 09:58 AM driveitloveit, which ocean? and how many miles? and how much? do you have any pics of your 240z? :D :D Welcome to AF btw!! Is there any hope for performance in the stock 2.4 liter? also, are there any serious maintenance issues? please reply fraz 10-24-2001, 04:17 PM I really like the 240Z and ,for some reason don't like engine swaps. Is there any hope for performance in the stock 2.4 liter? also, are there any serious maintenance issues? please reply there is hope :) try to get hold of a 6cyl 3 liter ohc motor. nissan made a whole bunch of these for holden over here (gmc) so there should be some in the states. these engines are bullet proof and bolt up to 240z g'box if you dont want to change the engine then you dont have much options. you could stick in a 2l 6cyl out of a very early skyline. these had turbos and haued ass. with a simple engine rebuild and some more boost you could have a pretty quick car ClarkKent 11-09-2001, 06:20 PM Fortunately, 240Z cars are classics and don't "need" additional power. Many older sports cars cannot compare even with todays econoboxes for power. But at least with the 240Z, there is a decent amount of torque with the stock engine to make driving a pleasure, if not a total hotrod. But if you do decide to up the power, the simplest thing you can do IMO is to do a swap to a 280ZX block. You can get the SU carbs to work well enough with this change too. Also: change the diff to a 4.11 LSD(280ZX Turbo or 200SX Turbo), swap the trans for a 5 spd(from 280ZX), convert to electronic ignition(from 280Z-ZX, 810), larger exhaust,... and you will have the performance(to run w/ 5L mustangs) without braking the bank, AND it will still be all Datsun/Nissan. (Something to consider too is that Datsun/Nissan L-series parts improved in their design as the years went along.) Cheers. BleachZee 12-07-2001, 03:13 PM Very good advice! Which is pretty much what I am going to do with my Fairlady Z. Only thing is, the 4.11 is not an LSD. It is an open differential. The only true limited slip Nissan made for the Z is in the 1987-89 300ZX turbo. It is a 3.7:1 LSD. Some 1988 turbos have a vicious LSD which has different half-shafts and will not be a direct bolt-in for an older ZCar. also, for the newer block you want a 1981-83 280ZX non-turbo only! They have the flat top pistons and heart shaped chambers for higher compression and a beter quench. (like all heads are today) I plan on using early fuel injection from a 1975 280Z due to it having no emissions garbage on the intake and fewer wires. Here is my 1970 right-hand drive Fairlady Z #00931 yes, I live in the USA. This car was brought over from Japan in the 80's. ClarkKent 12-07-2001, 04:02 PM Cool. I've always wanted to pull up to an intersection with a right-hand driver and confuse the hell out of the kids in the Honda next to me. I have a SSS510(Belgium import) with a 4.11 LSD. It came with the car when I bought it. I assumed it was a 280ZX T or 200SX T unit. I suppose it could be a Subaru unit. I'm just finishing up a VG30 conversion to the 510 and the 4:11 ratio is too high. I'll be looking for a 3.7:1 LSD soon. To use a "newer" style diff in a 510 or old Z, you have to change the stub axles(same goes for the Subaru unit). My '72 240 is waiting for a complete stripdown rebuild. I would like to keep the powerplant Nissan, but the V8 route sure is tempting. I'd like to see more pics of you Z. That'll be a very cool ride when you're done. Cheers. BleachZee 12-07-2001, 04:37 PM Yes, I have heard of that 4.11 subaru swap. (and other gear ratios in order to get an LSD) as for Nissan, the only R200 4.11 was in the 1985-86 200SX. The non-turbo 200SX from 1984-87 has an R180 4.11 that will work, but is not as strong. There are some others in the trucks and other cars that are the R180. Someone claimed that my Fairlady Z has a 4.11 or 4.375 R180 rear in it. I'm going to pull the back cover off and see how many teeth are in it to be sure what the ratio is. I would like to find a 4.375 rear (maybe LSD) and use the close ratio 5-speed from a 1981-83 280ZX. I forgot about the Subarus. now I'll have to look around for one. I have a web site with pictures of my cars and trucks. http://www.zipcon.net/bleach/pages/fairladyz.html Ando_Rules 06-28-2002, 10:35 AM i know this car looks so nice eh man vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
