Can anyone tell me the HP output of a 6.2 chevy diesel? I have one in my boat. Also what do they rev out to. My one runs thru' to only 3000, does this sound OK or should I re-prop it to get more revs? Any easy way of increasing the HP?

With thanks from down-under(NZ)

Diesels Primarily make tourqe, and are not intended to run much over 3300 RPM, they will live longer at a comfortable range of 1800 to 2800 rpm's though.

Max I would go is 3600, if you want more power, you can look into underdrive pulleys.

Here are some specs for you.

HP 140 @ 3600 RPM
Torque 255 @1900

thanx john for that bit of info'. yes i had been told they could be anything from only 130 thru to 155hp depending on the year.....is that correct?
what on earth are underdrive pulleys......never heard of them....perhaps they go by a different name down-under?
of course some of the modern marine diesels are designed to run thru' to around 4500rpm, but i take your point on longevity.

any further facts greatly appreciated.

Well, since it is a marine application the underdrive pulleys may not make that big of a difference, but the pulleys will reduce the drag of your accessories, such as alternator, fan blade and water pump.

Here is a link that I came across.

I really don't know much about diesels though.

I am pretty sure you can have the Injector pumps tweaked on these as well, and there are various settings for the governor's in these engines.

You would need to get in touch with a specialty shop to find out about that though.
