Hi:
My '02 Camry, 4 cyl., auto trannie, 110K miles, sounds very 'wheezy' when I start it cold. After awhile, especially after it's been driven and parked; like at the market, it runs like a kitten! what's up with it.
I haven' t brought it anywhere yet for a trouble-code check.
Jim in MA:rolleyes:

You will have to be more specific about the sound you're hearing at start-up.

Hard to be specific, but when it's cold - stone cold 1st thing in the morning, the engine has a 'whine' heard over the natural working sound of the engine, like it's sucking air or blowing out; no skip or faltering performance.
I leave it awhile, half-hour or more, and no whine when I start it.
I suspect something in there is contracting over night and expanding when it heats up, an exhaust issue, maybe?

My guess is that it's the water pump or alternator.

110K seems kind of low for an alternator. I was thinking vacuum leak or air leak on the air intake.
