First thing to do is check coolant level.......usually an air pocket will form, due to a coolant leak, and prevent flow through the heater core, thus no heat....
The other possibility is that the heater core is plugged.....

Look for coolant leak. Purge air pocket. Test the coolant for proper antifreeze/water ratio. Pure water WILL boil and cause the car to overheat.
If leak, fix the leak, bleeds out air pocket.
If no leak, bleeds out air pocket. If still overheating check thermostat. If fine... chance is that it's the pump.
