hi everyone this is my first time being on this forum and it looks like a cool site.anyways i have tranny fluid leaking from the seal were the axle goes over the side gear.just had the axle and ouput shaft seal replaced a couple of months ago.im not sure if the axle is seated ,if i grasp the cv housing i can move it back n forth at least a 1/2 centimeter to 1 centimeter.it even leak out when i was moving it back and forth, looks like it is leaking from the rubber part of the seal that goes around the axle.do i have to take the whole hub off to try to seat it or can i just remove the axle nut and lightly tap with a hammer.also is the seal probably damage or is it leaking cause the axle is seated .also the side gear that the axle goes over has some play [up and down movement]maybe 1/4 centimeter if that much is it supposed to have some play.

You should be able to tell by looking at the inner joint housing if it is completely seated or not. You can also compare it to the other side and see if it looks the same. Tapping on the outer joint will not help. If you need to seat the inner jount, it's easiest to grab ahold of the axle shaft itself use it as a driver to push the inner joint all the way in. The seal may have been damaged during the install, if the leak continues and the shaft is fully seated, then the seal needs replaced. Some movement on the trans output shaft that the axle slide onto is normal.
