Help with Mountaineer EATC

About 3 weeks ago the "daylight driving lights" I believe they are called stopped working. These are the lights that come on when it gets dark.
I did not think much of it since they can be turned on manually.
Now there is a bigger problem. The AC or Heat will not come on. The control unit has no power. I believe that the technical name is EATC. I tried looking up in the owners manual to see what fuses control this. I came up with 35 and 36 in the driver's side fuse panel.
I checked the fuses and could not see a blow one. I traded 35 and 36 with a 7.5 fuse from the radio and no change.
What should I check next?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!

Please let us know what model year your Mountaineer is. I have the wiring diagrams for pretty much every model year, but I need to know which one to pull up to attempt to offer suggestions.

There have been some issues with the Daytime Running Light (DRL) modules so for now I'd suspect the two are unrelated.

It is a 2001, AWD V8.

Thanks for the vehicle specifics. You mention the EATC has no power, but I'd like to get a bit more clarification on that. Do you mean that the display does not light up at all? How about the backlighting for the buttons, do those light up when the headlights are turned on? If the display comes on but there's no blower motor, that's an important tidbit as well.

I have the wiring diagrams for the 2001 Mountaineer if you're interested. If so, send me a Private Message with the request and an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments. The wiring diagram shows fuses 2 and 36 as being for the EATC, with fuse 2 also providing power for the blower motor relay coil. Fuse 35 is for the rear blower motor relay and doesn't appear to power the EATC in any way.

I will check again but I don't belive the display lights up at all. Even the backlight does not come on when the headlights are turned on.
I will also double check fuse number 2.

I did check the fuse 2 and 36. Replaced it with a working one 2 (Power Mirror) and no change.
When the headlights are turned on the backlights to the buttons do come on.
Does it look like the unit has to be replaced?
The stereo has a similar symptom. Since I've had the car the numbers on the display will not come on but it still works. :)

If it were my vehicle, I'd check to make sure power is getting to the EATC at the actually EATC connector before condemning it. I haven't heard of many of these (not sure I've ever heard of one) failing.
