2002 Grand AM GT (2 door) - Driver Window goes down - but not up (well)!!!

I have a 2002 Grand AM GT 2-door.

The driver side window goes down all the way.

On the way up though, it stops at 1/2 - then I have to 'help' it up. Then it stops at 3/4 of the way up, more help - then finally closed. (If I want it all the way closed, I still have to push UP on the window to get it to seal).

The motor is obviously working - what is causing this problem?

The motor can't handle the load to push the window up. I had one just this week, I pulled the motor and ran it, it worked both directions. Reinstalled it and no go. Replace the motor. If you can get the motor and regulator as an assy, do that. These are bad for regulators failing also.

It seems to get stuck at the EXACT same place though each time.

Almost like the windows isn't aligned properly or something.

Is that possible? Someone said locally to me that there are 'clips' or something of the like that can break and cause the window to come out of alignment...

Your window does not have the guide clips that secure the window in the run channels. What you are describing is common. Replace the regulator assembly with motor and be done with it.

Agree with GMtech1....if the window DOESN'T cock at an angle going up or down, the motor is bad(internal circuit breakers are tripping)....

It does seem to be cocked a little bit.

Even when I get it 'all the way up' it is still open a bit in the rear of the window, and I have to use my hand to push up the window to get the rear to close.

So it isn't going up totally straight.

It's still the motor.....when you pull the door apart check the clips that hold the glass to the regulator....

This is probably one of the issues on this car that I will have my mechanic work on.

I have heard horror stories of working on window motors.

Unless anyone knows of a pictorial (or youtube video) of motor replacement, I don't know if this is something that I can tackle.

Any recommendations on where to get a replacement motor for this?

Is Gmpartsdirect still the place to go?

Or is there a reputable place that has aftermarket or repaired motors?
