I agree completely. Cutting people off ALWAYS circumvents accidents and is recommended by the NHTSA and the IIHS as a surefire way of teaching bad drivers to be good ones.

But seriously, if someone cuts you off, almost causing an accident (as happened to my family) just dial *11 on your cell and report the bastard. We did, and he ended up with $1900 in tickets.

I'll keep that in mind next time I'm slamming on the brakes trying to avoid dumbasses.

BTW: you live in the states Boingo?

BTW2: an X5 was riding my ass yesterday on the freeway at 75mph.

Um, loosely defined, yes. Utah. Not that I'll admit it, though.

Call in the h.p. and tell them the guy was tailgating. I had a jerk in an Altima 3 ft off my bumper at 75 once, and called the h.p. on him. They caught up to him as he was tailgating someone else, speeding, and swerving in and out of traffic w/out signalling.
Tickets:
Reckless driving (about $400)
Not signalling ($150 or something)
Speeding 15+mph in excess of the limit (about $200)
I didn't even have to give a statement.

A tip: when giving your statement to the cops, make sure you don't show any agression to the other driver, just worry/dismay/incredulity. Both examples I've given, the offending driver was still acting very agressive after being pulled over.

Think about it: If the cop is listening to two people, and one of them is calm and reasonable but shaken, and the other is threatening to beat up the shaken guy, which person looks like the speeding tailgating agressive driver?

BTW, I visited Seattle last Oct., and it was beautiful.

Hello.
I was just posting a reply to all those who stereotype us BMW drivers as "assholes". NO NO...that is ENTIRELY NOT true at all. I'll tell you what is true...is the attitude WE get off non-BMW drivers!!! I am 19 and since I was 16 owned two new BMW's...one convertible and now a coupe. LISTEN TO THIS...the other day I was in a car wash (self service) and some guys vacuming their truck throws firecrackers in the stall! YES LIGHTED FIRECRACKERS. AND...how about this...going down the road and having other people give you the finger, or look at you like your some kind of alien. I mean it...I don't know if its jealousy or what...but it is ABSOLUTLEY NOT CALLED FOR. The first BMW was white with tan interior and BMW chrome rims...a very flashy car, so I decided to go for another one to see if attitudes change. I now have a new black BMW coupe with black leather and black tinted windows. Last month...a guy in the city pulled up next to me and gave me the finger and just ran the redlight a jumped on the freeway. He was shocked when I ran it right behind him and speed up to catch him! Pulled up right beside his drivers door (now running about 110 mph)...he knew there was no way of out-running me. THEN (being the BMW jerk that most people pre-determine) rolled down my window and showed the driver of the truck a toy of mine. After that...he ran completely off the freeway down into some bushes!!! SO let that be a lesson...IM NOT THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE. Lets all respect each other on the roads!

So far nobody cares.

I would've been so pissed off, if one of those firecrackers went off near my fine Yugoslavian driving machine! Think about the rediculously small, unnoticeable amount of soot it could have left on it's finely engineered paint!?

Maybe they know you from somewhere else and already don't like you? As for getting stared at like an alien, I get that all time with the Yugo - but you driving a car so boring as a BMW, must in fact be an alien.
The first BMW was white with tan interior and BMW chrome rims...a very flashy car My in your teens, and already having a midlife crisis!, so I decided to go for another one to see if attitudes change. I now have a new black BMW coupe with black leather and black tinted windows. What you really need is a ford model T - paint it black!

They never let you into the lane even with the signal miles ahead. What's up with that? Sorry to say this. But Yeah... BMW driver are asshole driver.

Wow, old thread.

I hate to stereotype anyone, but, at leat around here, BMW has the highest lease rate of any major car manufacturer. That is, more than any other make, BMW owners want to own one but cannot afford to buy one.

So, instead of buying a more modest car that fits their budget better, they sacrifice and scrape to make the monthly payment just so they can show-off. And imo, these egocentric, insecure people love to drive like self-centered assholes, too.

That being said, I used to own a BMW, and it got me more admiring looks and comments than anything else (except my GTO). And they are so nice to drive, I would love to have another. :)

Oh damn where do i start. I do have to say not ALL BMW drivers are that way. The ex girlfriends dad bought one about 3 months before we broke up and i have to say he was just like any other normal person out there, actually one of the nicer people i have ever met. But he didn't let it get to his head. But i can say this next time a "luxury" car cuts me up, im gonna be ramming a 5600lbs silverado up his tail pipe. Not sure what kind it was but it was a coupe and relatively new, and im by no means a city boy, from the country born and raised and won't ever change it either, drive a 01 silverado 2500hd, not a small truck by no means. Well he decided he wanted the lane i was in so he just kinda took it when we came to a stop at the intersection i put the brush guard about 8 inches from his trunk and just sat there and smiled real big. I finally got next to him and noticed he was talking on his damn phone, so me being the nice guy i am put the back bumper of my truck right about his window, and awkwardly enough thats where the 152db train horn is mounted :iceslolan. Scared the crap out of him thats for sure. Moral of the story is why do luxury car drivers think they own the road, they think they are invincible, well lets see ya put that car in the dirt rectangle with me and my derby car :iceslolan then well see who wins. I just don't get people sometime, i mean yeah i have made a few mistakes on the road a few times but i will actually apologize for it if i see the person again. Lets see you BMW drivers do that. Pull your head out of your richy rich, spoiled a** and realize that your a person just like everyone else on the road, cause on of these days your gonna cut the wrong person off and there either gonna flatten a tire or park on top of your car.

In my area, the peoples who drive a BMW go slowly and don't overtake anybody. Which is weird.

The one who drive like an asshole are the Mazda 3 drivers. When I check in my rear mirror, I often see a Mazda 3 sticked in my back that want to go faster. When it gets the chance, it overtake me the fast as possible like if it was touring car a race.

When I want to change lane, I always check at back if there's no Mazda 3 behind, so I'll no hit it in changing lane (if it overtake at same time).

I found these cars very dangerous in the road. Damn, it's the car that sold the most here.

I really don't think BMW drivers are assholes, i think it is the car. BMW cars are one of the greatests cars out there. Just imagine a road filled with Big Cargo Trucks that are sluggish and you are the only car driving on the road. You, in a Honda or a Toyota will overtake these cargo trucks right? This is the same feeling any driver feels once he gets his hands on a BMW on any road, any day even when there are no truks. Also, just imagine how much traffic will be a lot better if all cars on the road are BMW's regardless of the driver. Police cars should be M5's not american junk. Its not that the Crown Vic is better suited, cause its not. But can you imagine the Police spending $50,000 on every single car... and just imagine the repair bills.

They don't leave the engines in them stock anyway. The Crown vis are just really big, fairly fast, durable, cheap cars.

You sir have proven why 'not all' but most BMW drivers are seen as assholes - the self-entitlement of driving 'the best', based solely on their own perception of their vehicle and self entitlement. Surely BMW makes excellent cars, I would love to buy a 2-3 year old 328i or 535xi, but I would not consider myself any better because I was behind the wheel of that car.

In short, BMW's do not create assholes, assholes just tend to buy BMW's.

Oh, and if Americans used M5's as police cars, we would first off be broke, and secondly after the first week they wouldn't have any cars left. The life of a police car is punishing duty, and the first curb the officer drove over would cripple the Bimmer - Crown Vic's are body-on-frame tanks that are basically a car body on top of a pickup truck, which means 'tough'.

Not necessary BMW. Some of them like to drive also VW Golf, Civic and Mazda3. They like driving fast car to overtake.

I've seen an asshole in BMW only 2 times. Most of them are driving Mazda3.

I think we are learning from this thread that asshole drivers can really drive any car...I have seen my fair share of minivans that blast past me on a high-speed motorway only to cut in front and hit the brakes to make a turn, no signal of course.

Personally I have seen quite a few that drive BMW's and, driving my little Mazda, I can only project my assumptions as to why that is. As I indicated earlier, I think it is a level of self-importance that is applied to oneself when you have 'achieved' the level of being able to buy a BMW. I have earned this car, I have the right of way more than other drivers, because I have more power and better control. BS! If we all had a little more concern for the 'other guy' on the road, we would all be much happier drivers.

My rule of thumb - whatever you do in a car shouldn't cause someone else to hit the brakes unexpectedly. Whether you are pulling into traffic, merging on the highway, or making a turn off of a motorway - signal, be patient, and we can all share the road - whether you're in a brand-new 750i or an '87 Corolla.

I agree, BMW drivers are assholes. They're usually middle class people who have over extended themselves to buy a marginal luxury car that breaks down a lot. The stress and their own inadequate nature causes them to act out on other drivers.

This is why i decided to but a Porsche. It's a better car, Porsche drivers don't have an attitude problem and they leave A-hole Bimmers in the dust. Basically when you own a Porsche you really don't have a point to prove, unlike drivers of shoddy Bavarisch Motor Werke crap. BMW-ultimate driving machine...LMFAO.

I don't think that peoples who overtake want to prove something, they just like to do it. Because these kind of persons play frequently Need For Speed most wanted or other racing game. So when they are on the street, their natural reflexes wake up, and they want to overtake and go fast. It's a question of habit.

Probably you don't play need for speed a lot so you don't have the reflex of overtake with your Porsche.

Need For Speed has nothing to do with the real world. A video game has a joystick and a reset button, real life has head-on collisions, lawsuits and injuries. Smart people leave the aggressive manoeuvres to video games - not saying it isn't fun to pass, but doing it intelligently.

serge_saati
02-05-2010, 10:31 AM
Yes of course. But if someone play video game all the day, when he exits home he still feel the need of speed. So he can unconsciously overtake other cars like he was playing. w/o crashing, of course.

You need to lay off the NFS..... and the actual "speed" but thats a different story :p lol

If you find your-self getting passed all the time, then you might wana just check the speed limit. And regardless of what you seem to belive, most drivers aren't teenagers playing video games all day trying to get their adrenaline rush by passing you. :runaround:

I've actually seen a lot of BMW's be rude on the road hah but overall I would have to say it really depends on the driver. I've seen one of each car do something that was rude so it just depends, but its interesting to think about ;)

One time I see comeone driving a 335i coupé in a congested highway exactly like in need for speed. He overtakes every body and switch 3 lanes in one shot. But it's rare. Only 3 in my life.
