I have a friend who has a 97 Dodge Stratus which just started having some issues.

"its a 97 dodge stratus. the car runs fine (but sounds a little weird, but that is most likely just me freaking out about the car). Sometimes after running the car, I would smell gas fumes. Or when I would back it up and put it in drive, i would notice a slight stall, but it doesn't do it anymore so I think i was just pressing too lightly on the gas peddal"

So she took it to Autozone and they said that it was either: leak detection pump defective, open orshorted circuit condition, or solenoid defective. Her uncle said it is probably the evaporation emissions pump or line has a crack or the purke solenoid has a crack in it. Any suggestions?

Where would be the best place to start looking?

check the purge valve if you have one.. Not sure what motor you have.. But Id say hes on the right track.. I have also seen the smell come from right around the throttle body if the clamps or bolts arnt tight.
