Transmission issues

Hello Everyone.
My car has always done this since ive had it. When i go to shift into rev. from park, i get a slight jolt. It also does from park to drive and so on. Also, when im driving and the transmissionshifts, i also get a little bit of lag. I really hope my transmission isnt slipping. It is using a little bit of fluid but im not 100 percent on that. Would doing a flush/ filter replacement help? i really know nothing about stuff like transmissions, so on.

It's quite normal for an older automatic to have some lag and jolts when selecting drive.

They don't "use" fluid either, there is nothing going on inside that can consume it.
But, they can leak.
If it's leaking and the level has gotten low, then it will make any jolts and delays etc worse.

Haha ok ok. That is true. But such a simple question, and that ive gotten quicker responses before. :P

Anyway, yeah i meant a leak instead of being used. But i cant really tell if its a leak. Do you think that new fluid/filter/seal would help it? (Ive heard that it can make it worse.)

A flush is a waste of money,,,,,fluid & filter change a good idea,,,,the reason for a flush is to exchange fluid without disturbing filter,,,there is a risk of allowing contaminents into system when removing filter,,,then the finger pointing starts,,,,YOU SCREWED MY TRANSMISSION UP !!!!!!! when the problem was already there!!!!! the lag or delay can be caused by converter drain down from sitting over night,,,,to filter with restriction,,,could be a problem with coverter but normally they work,,,or they don't....the jolt,,,,hmmmmm.....the soft transition,,,there is a vacume modulator on front of trans,,,this sets,,,adjusts line pressure of transmission,,,looks at vacume rise and fall and adjusts accordingly,,,may want to replace this,,,whatch what you are replacing with,,,several design variations of internal valve ,,,,,must replace with same internal valve train,,,modulator may not look the same but the valve train MUST be the same that came out,,,also check hoses ,,tubing supplying vacume to modulator.......overfill transmission by at least 1 quart,,it needs it!!!!

You're better off draining and filling 2 to 3 times to exchange the old fluid for new. Drain, replace the filter and refill. Run a few days, then drain & refill again (no filter replacement). Run a few more days, then drain & fill a third time. Yes, it is time-consuming and somwhat wasteful, but the cost is on par with flushing and is much gentler in removing any build-up.

Flushes generally do more harm than good, especially for transmissions that have been forgotten/neglected. Varnish and other debris can become dislodged by the process and then redeposited in the valve body where it can screw up the valving, passageways, etc.

Well i was just going to change the fluid and filter. no flushes. I think flushes are pretty bad on yout tranny anyway...

I'm just gonna try a fluid/filter change this weekend. its cheap and it might help. Im prolly not going to flush, though.

Man its been forever since iven been on here.
Anyway, i did do the change of the fluid, and filter replace. it actually helped out quite a bit, but not a *huge* difference..

I've always heard bad things about overfilling a transmission. Could adding a Lucas Trans Tune/Fix be any help?

Have you checked engine/transmission mounts?
