Do I need to get new brake rotors?

The front pads on my daughter's 2003 are getting pretty thin and should be replaced. The rotors are not too bad, but in normal situations I would replace both the pads and rotors. However, the car not worth putting much money into, and she is hoping to get a new one in the fall.
Can I just put new pads on the old rotors with getting them turned, or buying new ones without compromising her safety?
Thanks for your help.

you can just replace the brake pads without compromising any thing
as long as the rotors are not worn/or grooved, you can clean the rotors
and install the pads.rotors are not exspensive so replacing over getting
the old ones machined is recemended
if the rotors are warped you may end up with a vibration w/applying brake

Good luck

I agree! New rotors are not always required as long as the old ones are still servicable.

garage loves to replace/machine rotors/drums. Nowadays they recommand to simply replace them due to the cost of the machining versus brand new one, and machining can reduce the safety... They love to tell you that you need new one because it take very little time to replace them as often there is not even a single bolt to remove once you removed the caliper. At worse it's 2 bolts per wheel more, so take 2 minutes to replace on a wheel, yet they charge you "alot" for it, plus a good markup on the parts too.

Thank you all. The rotors are not grooved and there is no peddle pulsation, so I am just going to replace the pads and leave the rotors as they are.

Thanks again.
