99 bonneville air bag replacement question

hi all i bought a 99 bonneville sle wrecked and both air bags went off i replaced all the body parts that were damaged and now would like to replase air bags ive read posts here about unhooking battery but could anyone tell me what else besides air bags i need to replase if anything and where said parts would be loacated so they dont go off again id hate for them to blow because i did not replace somthing and break my new windshield thanks alot

I've never had to deal with the airbags, but IF I didn't have an OEM manual, I'd go and use the free on-line auto service (not owner's) manual at autozone.com. I'd find the R &R airbag procedure to insure all the components that go into installing 'em are there. I'd use the electrical diagram to insure that the impact sensors and associated components were either intact or needed to be replaced, and basically electrically insure the new bags are ready to deploy once you have everything in place from the work you did before inserting the fuse to energize the bag circuits for normally driving.
BTW, (babbling here) when I buy my cars, I normally buy used OEM service manuals from websites such as eBay & Amazon. I haven't bought one for my 02 Bonnie yet. The on-line manual on Autozone is a few notches above a Haynes/Chilton manuals and a few below an OEM book. The electrical diagrams are good and the procedures are okay. Good luck.

You need to replaced the steering wheel air bag, IP air bag, front impact sensor and the SDM (sensing and diagnostic module).

Normally we are advised not give advice of this nature due to liability issues. This is not a job for a dyer, the clock spring can also be an issue on any deployed SIRS. The op speaks for itself. Please note, all concerned , thanks.

thanks for all your replys as to the last 1 im not sure what a dyer is is but anyway i was aware of the clock springs for those of you who do not know there the 2 spings that are behind the air bag on the steering wheel a salvage yard told me that its ilegal for them to put in a drivers side air bag so they swap out the whole steering colum im not sure if i will or not ill post results later i would have posted sooner but could not get back on to post the last few days till i changed my password thanks again to all

FYI it is not designed with 2 springs, it is a rotating device that looks like a signal switch that maintains contact while the wheel is turned for the SIRS circuit, a dyer is a "do it yourselfer." Not every SIRS deployment causes a failure of the clock spring, self diagnostics when all the other components are replaced would set a code referring to this.
